Fatal Pit Accident At Whitehaven
Last Tuesday morning, about one o'clock, while a young man named James McGuirk, aged 19, a driver, was at work in Henry Pit, a quantity of stone fell from the roof and side of the tram-way, inflicting injuries on him which afterwards proved fatal. He was at once conveyed to the Colliery Infirmary, and attended by Dr. Lumb, but only survived a short time. An inquest opened at the Victoria Vaults on Wednesday, before W. W. Lumb, Esq., was adjourned for a week, in order that the Government inspector of mines might be communicated with.
