The Colliery Explosion at Whitehaven
The inquest was opened yesterday on the bodies of Joseph Kennedy, 22, and William Vincent Fitzsimmons, 23, who lost their lives in the colliery explosion at Whitehaven on Tuesday. The coroner expressed the sympathy of himself and the jury with the relatives. Mr. Helder, who represented the Whitehaven Colliery Company, associated himself with the coroner's remarks. After evidence of identification the inquiry was adjourned until Tuesday. The Mayor of Whitehaven received a telegram yesterday from Mr. Burnyeat, member for the division, expressing regret for the loss of life and the hope that the injured were progressing favourably. All the injured are progressing favourably.
