We have no agenda!" - Scott Stapp, Creed Amazon.com Amazon.com (for MP3s) CreedCreed consists of Scott Stapp on vocals, Mark Tremonti on guitar, Brian Marshall on bass, and Scott Phillips on drums and hails from Florida. Creed formed in 1995 (after briefly naming themselves 'Naked Toddler'). The band is rooted in rock even though lead singer Stapp was raised in a deeply religious household in which rock music was not allowed. By his late teens, Stapp left home and began tapping into his rock persona by writing music. 1997.... Creed - 'My Own Prison'August 26: Creed released their debut LP My Own Prison (originally recorded for less than $6,000). Creed became the first act to have 4 #1 hits from a debut LP on the rock charts. The LP topped the charts in New Zealand. 1998.... January 13: My Own Prison was certified gold. Creed - "What's This Life For" (Single)December 15: Creed could be heard on the Faculty soundtrack on the track "I'm Eighteen." December 31: Creed topped the Billboard Year-End Charts as the Top Hot Mainstream Rock Artist. 1999.... February 26: My Own Prison was certified 3x platinum. July 25: Creed appeared at Woodstock '99 in Rome, New York. Creed - 'Human Clay'September 8: Creed topped the Billboard Mainstream Rock Tracks chart for 17 weeks with "Higher." September 28: Creed released Human Clay and the LP spent 2 weeks at the top of the Billboard 200 Albums chart. Stapp said of the LP: "We're the type of band that functions really well under pressure, and there was definitely a pressure to try to top ourselves this time. Not so much what we sell, because we don't really care about that. We wanted to make a really great record. The band’s goal has always been to make records that are solid from start to finish; records that take you through an entire range of emotions." The LP also topped the charts in Canada. Creed - "One" (Single)October: Stapp walked off the stage at a concert in Houston after 3 songs due to straining his vocal chords. October 16: Creed topped the Billboard 200 LP chart for 2 weeks with Human Clay. October 16: Creed topped the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart for 3 weeks with "Higher." November: Stapp was hospitalized after falling ill to "flu-like symptoms." November 3: Human Clay was certified 2x platinum. and My Own Prison was certified 4x platinum. November 9: Creed could be heard on the soundtrack for End Of Days on the track "Wrong Way." Creed - "What If" (Single)December 31: Creed topped the Billboard Year-End Chart-Toppers as the Top Hot Mainstream Rock Artist and with the Top Hot Mainstream Rock Track ("One"). January 25: Creed could be heard on the soundtrack for Scream 3 on the tracks "What If" and "Is This The End." February 16: Human Clay was certified 3x platinum. Creed - "Higher" (Single)March 25: Creed hit the ARC Weekly Top 40 with "Higher." April 11: Creed could be heard on the soundtrack for Jailbait on the track "Pity For A Dime." May 10: Human Clay was certified 4x platinum. May 13: Creed hit the Top 10 with "Higher." June: Marshall had some harsh words for Pearl Jam (who they are often compared to) during a radio interview: "Eddie Vedder wishes he could write like Scott Stapp." Stapp refuted the comments on their website a few days later. The band also got into a war-of-words with Limp Bizkit during the month. July 13: Creed topped the Billboard Mainstream Rock Tracks chart for 4 weeks with "With Arms Wide Open." July 13: Human Clay was certified 5x platinum. Creed - "With Arms Wide Open" (Single)August: It was announced that Brian Marshall (a founding member and the one who named the band) left the group for "personal and professional differences." The band was not seeking a permanent replacement for Marshall. Brett Hestla was hired as a bassist while on tour. A statement read: "Creed and founding member Brian Marshall have decided to part ways on friendly terms, citing personal and professional differences. Marshall and Creed are discussing terms for his involvement in the future releases of previously recorded but unreleased material...." August 5: Creed hit the ARC Weekly Top 40 with "With Arms Wide Open." September: It was announced that Creed would release a limited edition single of "With Arms Wide Open" with some profits benefiting Stapp's 'With Arms Wide Open Foundation" (to "promote health, loving relationships between children and their families"). Creed - 'Weathered'December 8:Creed topped the Billboard 200 LP chart for 8 weeks and the Internet Album chart for 1 week with Weathered(selling over 880,000 copies in its 1st week of release in the US). December 15: Creed topped the Billboard Mainstream Rock Tracks chart for 9 weeks with "My Sacrifice." December 19: Weathered was certified 4x platinum. June 3: Creed announced they had broken up and the decision was made earlier in the year after Stapp and Tremonti weren't able to agree on the direction of the band's music - as Tremonti explained: "We had gotten together two or three times and nothing happened. We got our instruments and played, but neither of us was taking it seriously. We were just running in circles. There wasn't a vibe like on the previous records. It felt very job-like. We knew that it would take us years to get a record out." Creed - "A Thousand Faces" (Single)August 10: Tremonti, Phillips, and Marshall joined up with Myles Kennedy to form Alter Bridge and released their debut LP One Day Remains.
