1 Sep 1821 Chiapas declares its acceptance of Mexico's Plan de Iguala,

expecting Guatemala to follow.

3 Sep 1821 Chiapas declares its independence from Spain (Provincia de

Ciudad Real de Chiapas).

26 Sep 1821 Chiapas, confronted with the declaration of independence of

the Kingdom of Guatemala on 15 Sep 1821, protests its inclusion

in the text of that declaration and the fact that it does not

adhere to Mexico.

16 Jan 1822 The Regency of the Mexican Empire decrees the incorporation of

Chiapas.
