Born in Victoria but resident in Western Australia since he was a child, Robert Wallace 'Bruce' Campbell debuted with Subiaco in <1908>. In <1911> he was convinced to throw in a promising WAFL career to cross to Victoria and join the Blues. Remarkably his first two games both ended in draws, and the third went close with the Blues suffering a two point loss.
He played just three games with Carlton in before joining Fitzroy midway through the year. Campbell topped the Maroons goalkicking that season, but suffered an interrupted <1912> and returned to Western Australia.
Back at Subiaco the high-marking forward played in the 1913 and 1915 premiership sides before football was interrupted by the First World War. He enlisted in the Army in August <1915> and went to war.
Now 30-years-old he returned for one season with Melbourne in <1920> and played five more games for the Fuschias.
Campbell later served as a Lieutenant in the Army's Home Defence Force during World War II.
