After suffering their first loss of the season against Collingwood in their last match, the Redlegs bounced back with yet another hard fought win earned in the last few minutes.

Melbourne were nowhere near their best, and trailed at every change as well as deep into the last quarter until with about five minutes left in the match they sparked and ran away with victory. It was a lucky victory for a side down on form.

Going into the second quarter behind Melbourne got a goal after 10 seconds to Wittman and narrowed the gap to two points at half time but both sides missed attacking chances by trying to pass across goal. The standard of play improved in the third term but Melbourne could only manage one goal and conceded one after the bell to go in 17 points behind.

Melbourne rallied desperately in the last quarter and got the first goal through Johnson. They should have had another through Wittman but he missed an easy chance. Eventually their pace and stamina won out and they overhauled South. With the Reds just one goal in front Haw shook off the effects of a knee injury to kick the sealer for a victory which left Melbourne in second place behind on percentage.

Vine, Wittman and Davidson were best - and all instrumental in the comeback.
