Dacher Keltner


Dacher Keltner is the author of the forthcoming, Born To Be Good: The Science of A Meaningful Life (WW Norton, Publication date: January 12, 2009). He is also the author of Social Psychology, with Tom Gilovich and Richard Nisbett; and Understanding Emotions, 2nd Edition, with Keith Oatley and Jennifer Jenkins, and the forthcoming The Compassionate Instinct (WW Norton, 2009) with Jason Marsh and Jeremy Smith. Alongside his scientific writing, Dacher has written for the Utne Reader and the New York Times Magazine.

Among many teaching and research awards he was recently named by the Utne Reader as one of 50 visionaries for 2008. Dacher Keltner is currently a Professor of Psychology at U.C. Berkeley and founding faculty director of the Greater Good Science Center and co-editor of the magazine Greater Good, an interdisciplinary center that is translating the new science of happiness and compassion to thousands of educators, practitioners, parents, and concerned citizens. Dacher lives in the Berkeley hills with his wife Mollie McNeil, an artist, and his two daughters Natalie and Serafina.
