Pierre François André Méchain (August 16, 1744 - September 20, 1804)
Born in Laon, France.
Pierre Méchain was honored by the astronomical community by naming an asteroid after him. Asteroid (21785) Méchain was discovered by Milos Tichý at Kle on September 21, 1999, and provisionally designated 1999 SS2.
