Supernova 2014J in M82 (original) (raw)
Supernova 2014J, also known by its provisional designation PSN J09554214+6940260, was detected in M82 by Stephen J. Fossey of the University College London Observatory on January 21, 2014, and measured at magnitude 11.7 on January 21. It was found located 54"W and 21"S of the center of M82. It was classified as of type Ia from its spectrum, with expansion velocity 20,000 km/s in its Si II lines, and found on prediscovery images by the 48" Palomar Schmidt telescope. Brightness was rising to a peak of about 10.1 mag around February 2 or 3. * SN 2014J discovery announce (CBET 3792) * Discovery story of SN 2014J in M82 (Steve Fossey, University College London) * CBAT "Transient Object Followup Report" for PSN J09554214+6940260 * Possible SN 2014 in M82 classification (ATel 5786) * AAVSO Alert Notice 495 on Bright Type-Ia Supernova in M82 * SN 2014J in M82 Resources, by David Bishop * SN 2014J index of images etc., by David Bishop * Bright Supernova in M82, Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD) January 24, 2014) * Hubble Space Telescope: STScI PR 2014-13, HST Picture of the Week 14/09 (March 3, 2014) * Chandra X-ray Observatory: CXO PR January 27, 2014 * Spitzer Space Telescope: SST News Feature 14-04 * Swift: Nasa Spacecraft take aim at SN 2014J * NOAO/KPNO:NOAO PR 14-01 (February 19, 2014) * NED data for SN 2014J * SIMBAD data for SN 2014J * Messier Galaxies and their Supernovae and Supernovae in Messier Catalog Galaxies pages * Supernova 2004am in M82 * Supernova 2008iz in M82 * Possible Supernova 2009 in M82 References * CBET 3792: J.
