Frederick Robert Stephen Balfour1

Frederick Robert Stephen Balfour was born on 11 March 1873.1 He was the son of Alexander Balfour of Dawyck and Janet Roxburgh.1 He married Gertrude Norman, daughter of Frederick Henry Norman and Lina Susan Penelope Collet, on 3 August 1904.1 He died on 2 February 1945 at age 71.1
He was educated at Loretto School, Muselborough, East Lothian, ScotlandG.1 He graduated from Trinity College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG, with a Master of Arts (M.A.)1 He gained the rank of Staff Captain.1 He was admitted to the Royal Company of Archers on 30 January 1900.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in 1916.1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Peebles-shire.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Peebles-shire.1 He held the office of Vice-Lord-Lieutenant of Peebles-shire between 1922 and 1926.1 He lived at Dawyck, Peebles-shire, ScotlandG.1 He was appointed Commander, Royal Victorian Order (C.V.O.) in 1944.1

Sir Robert Palk, 1st Bt. was born in December 1717 at Ambrooke, Devon, EnglandG.1 He was the son of Walter Palk and Frances Abraham.1,2 He married Anne Vansittart, daughter of Arthur Vansittart and Martha Stonhouse, on 11 February 1761.1 He died on 29 April 1798 at age 80.1
He matriculated at Wadham College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG, on 15 April 1736.1 He was a chaplain in the Honourable East India Company Service.1 He held the office of Governor of Madras between 1763 and 1767.1 On 11 November 1766 he concluded a treaty with Nizam of the Deccan.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Ashburton between December 1767 and 1768.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Wareham between 1768 and 1774.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Ashburton between 1774 and 1787.1 He was created 1st Baronet Palk, of Haldon House, in Haldon, co. Devon [Great Britain] on 19 June 1782.1 He had two other daughters.2
