Sir James Forrest Halkett Carmichael1

Sir James Forrest Halkett Carmichael was born on 8 July 1868.2 He was the son of Charles Paget Carmichael and Georgina Rebecca Judge.2 He married Winifred Mary Row, daughter of Reverend J. M. Webster Row, in 1908.2 He died on 12 August 1934 at age 66, without issue.2
He was educated at Clifton College, Clifton, Bristol, EnglandG.2 He was educated at Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst, Berkshire, EnglandG.2 He was commissioned in 1887, in the service of the Royal Engineers and served in India, Aden, Sonaliland and Burma (1889-90), in Chin Hill Expedition (1893) War Office 1900-3, Ordnance Survey 1903-4, joined Staff.2 He fought in the Tiral Expedition between 1897 and 1898.2 He was 4th Crown Agent for Colonies and Engineer-in-Chief.2 As Heir of the House of Carmichael he claimed unsuccessfully the dormant titles of the Earl of Hyndford.2 He held the position of 28th Chief of the Name and Arms of Carmichael from on 8 September 1915.1 He was appointed Commander, Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.) in 1918.2 He was awarded the Chevalier, Legion of Honour in 1919.2 He was appointed Companion, Order of St. Michael and St. George (C.M.G.) in 1920.2 He was registered as a Member, Insititute of Civil Engineers (M.Inst.C.E.)2 He was appointed Knight Bachelor in 1929.2

David Freemantle Carmichael1

David Freemantle Carmichael was born on 13 October 1830.1 He was the son of David Scott Carmichael Smyth and Anne Sherwood.2 He married, firstly, Jane Theophila Gee, daughter of Robert Gee.1 He married, secondly, Sarah Margaret Truelock, daughter of Venerable George Truelock, on 27 September 1876.1 He died on 30 September 1903 at age 72.1
He was given the name of David Freemantle Carmichael Smyth at birth.2 He was educated at Harrow School, Harrow, London, EnglandG.1 He was educated at Haileybury College, Haileybury, Hertfordshire, EnglandG.1 His name was legally changed to David Freemantle Carmichael by Royal Licence.2 He held the office of Senior Member of the Council of Madras.1
He had three daughters by his first wife.1
