Convoy HG 76 - warsailors.com (original) (raw)

CONVOY HG 76 Departed Gibraltar on Dec. 14-1941 and arrived Liverpool on the 30th

Notes:
* Annavore is crossed out with the word "NOT" next to it, which is usually the way of indicating the ship did not sail. In this case, however, she must have sailed, since she was sunk when in HG 75.

Ruckinge, on a voyage from Lisbon with 51 tons base metal, 638 tons foodstuffs, 820 tons chemicals and 620 tons wood, was torpedoed by U-108 on Dec. 19. She had a crew of 31, 3 D.B.S. (previously torpedoed seamen on passage), 1 stowaway and 6 gunners, 2 crew died. Later shelled and sunk by HMS Samphire to prevent danger to navigation.

The Norwegian Annavore was sunk on Dec. 21 by U-567 - more information and crew list are available on my page about Annavore.

In addition to the above 2 vessels, the escorting HMS Stanley (U-574, Dec. 19) and HMS Audacity (U-751, Dec. 21) were also sunk.

Commodore's notes are not available.

Escorts are named at the various external links below.

I've added a report by HMS Vanoc to Page 2
(however, there's not much about the convoy itself)
