American manned single-crew spaceplane, follow-up to Black Horse concept. In comparison to Black Horse, used existing engines and a much more achievable mass fraction by only flying to half orbital speed.

Status: Study 1993. Payload: 450 kg (990 lb). Thrust: 402.05 kN (90,385 lbf). Gross mass: 43,160 kg (95,150 lb). Height: 48.00 m (157.00 ft). Diameter: 4.60 m (15.00 ft). Apogee: 280 km (170 mi).

Black Colt would take off from a runway; rendezvous with a tanker to load oxidizer; then fly to Mach 12/150 nautical miles altitude to release a Star 48V second stage with a 450 kg payload.

LEO Payload: 450 kg (990 lb) to a 200 km orbit. Flyaway Unit Cost 1985$: 4.100 million.
