Submarine K-84 Ekaterinburg launched the missile while surfaced in the ice pack from a polar location toward the Chizha impact zone on the Kanin Peninsula. The three warheads were reported to have successfuly reached their targets. This was the first Russian launch from the icepack since 29 August 1995.
