The municipality of Ligugé (3,349 inhabitants in 2017; 2,277 ha) is located 10 km south of Poitiers.
Ligugé is best known for the Ligugé abbey, the oldest monastic establishment in the West still in use. Ligugé, founded by St. Martin of Tours in 360, was the first abbey established in France.
