Description
Quartered red and yellow, in the first quarter a white crescent and star.
I would guess that Selangor's flag is made in more sizes, varying proportions, and more abundantly than any other Malay state flag. Selangor is the state that surrounds Kuala Lumpur and is the most populated. Selangor is basically one big metropolitan/suburb type area. It is not unusual to see Selangor flags made up in 2to3 proportions with 4x6, and 6x9 foot flags being fairly common. Officially though, the flag's proportions are 1to2 and the majority of Selangor's flags are manufactured accordingly.

Possible Regent's or Crown Prince's Flag?
Further down in that webpage, just above the picture of the crown prince and regent (Raja Muda), there is a coat-of-arms-like image, white on a green field. I wonder if this is the central element (or maybe the emblem on the fly) of a green flag (perhaps with red canton with white crescent and star) which would be the regent's flag.

The yellow crescent and star of the Selangor flag was changed to white 30 January 1965 according to Whitney Smith.
Jaume Ollé, 23 September 1997
According to Flaggenbuch 1939 [neu39], the former flag had indeed a yellow crescent and star, also the crescent was thinner and the star much smaller. It was also (and is still?) used by the Sultan. Dorling-Kindersley 1997 [udk97] shows an erroneous [current] flag with yellow crescent and star.

This version is more accurate than the one above, as per numerous photos that I have seen. I have browsed through 26 old Selangor flag pictures at my disposal, all of which were probably taken between the late 40's and early 60's. All of them except for one show a pre 1965 Selangor flag that looks almost exactly like the current flag except of course, the crescent and star are yellow/gold. The one exception is in a picture showing two Selangor flags flying together. One is as described above, and the other has the horns of the crescent almost touching the highest and lowest points of the star.

According to Flaggenbuch 1939 [neu39], the flag of the British Resident was identical to the national flag but forked.

The flag of the Petaling Jaya City Council (Majlis Bandaraya Petaling Jaya) consists of two horizontal stripes blue over yellow with city council emblem toward the hoist, overlapping both stripes, and some design made of red lines over the rest of the flag.
