Zaanstad municipality

Zaanstad is a merger of the former municipalities of Assendelft,Krommenie,Westzaan,Wormerveer,Zaandam, and Zaandijk (1 Jan 1974), although the municipal flag seems to have been in use by Zaandam since 1967. On 1 Jan 2002 Zaanstad had 137.667 inhabitants.
The Zaanstad flag is derived from the oldest known flag of Zaandam(1667).
