's-Gravenzande former municipality
On 1 Jan 2004 the former municipalities of De Lier, 's-Gravenzande, Monster, Naaldwijkand Wateringen merged to form the new municipality of Westland.
Number of inhabitants (1 Jan 2003): 19.482; area: 20,77 km². Settlements: 's-Gravenzande (seat), Heenweg.
Flag: a rectangular flag, consisting of a blue field with in the center a yellow rampant lion; adopted 29 januari 1959 by municipal resolution.
The flag is derived from the municipal arms. 's-Gravenzande was the residence of the Counts of Holland before 's-Gravenhage was founded, and it is assumed that the lion is connected with the arms of Holland.
