It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a plain red field.

Shield Or, on chief a pair of open tailor´s scissors reversed Gules, on base a toad couchant Vert armed Gules. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case serifed letters "COUCIEIRO".
Meaning:
The arms represent exactly what they appear to: A toad being killed by scissors, illustrating a local legend about a brave tailor, who objected to the droit du seigneur by killing with the tool of his trade a local feudal lord nicknamed Master Toad, as related in the official communal webpage Frogs and toads are seldom seen in Portuguese local heraldry.

Coucieiro is one of the 21 communes of Vila Verde Municipality not affected by the 2013 changes; it had 526 inhabitants in 2021 and covers 4,21 km².
