Description of the flag
Official proportions of 1952 flag:
ratio = 1:2
blue+white+blue stripes = 1/3 of flag height
white stripe = 1/20 of flag height

Reverse of the flag
No hammer, sickle and star on the reverse side.
Mark Sensen, 25 May 1997
Officially reverse looked like obverse without star and hammer-sickle. But in fact I never saw these flags without star, hammer-sickle. Real flags (all 15) usually were either with reverse analogous to obverse (but with star and hammer-and-sickle near the hoist) or with reverse = mirrored obverse.

The emblem of the SSR was introduced 23 March 1937 (according to Hesmer [hes92]) by the then constitution (Art. 115). It was replaced by the current emblem on 14 January 1994.
M. Schmöger, 16 September 2001
The star is “denser” in this version of the emblem, taken from an official soviet handbook publ. 1980 (SSSR — Administrativno-territorialhnoe Delenie Soûznyq Respublik).
António Martins, 27 November 2002
Previous versions

Victor Lomantsov, 07 May 2000
