The municipality of Bilecik (77,976 inhabitants in 2016, 63,275 in the town of Bilecik; 43,070 ha) is located 200 km south-east of Istanbul and 100 km east of Bursa.

Flag of Bilecik

The flag of Bilecik (photo) is white with the municipality's emblem, which was adopted in July 2017 "Belediyesi" means "Municipality".

The crescent and star represent the past and present of Turkey. The circle of 16 stars represent the Sixteen Great Turkish Empires. Turquoise, a color named for Turkey, is a symbol of strength, power, stability and power. The network represented on the turquoise background is a symbol of technology, innovation and innovation.
The two arrows form number "113", the code of Bilecik Province.

Bilecik Şeyh Edebali University

Bilecik Sheikh Edebali University (Bilecik Şeyh Edebali Üniversitesi) was established in 2007.
The university's namesake is Sheikh Edebali (1206-1326, therefore traditionally believed to have lived 120 years, buried in Bilecik) is considered as one of the spiritual founders of the Ottoman Empire. He has remained famous for its advice to Osman Ghazi (1299; full text), ending with "O Osman! Know your past so well that you can walk strongly to the future. Do not forget from where you came so you may not forget where you go."
