Date: 22nd January 1904 Colliery: Burradon Company: Burradon and Coxlodge Coal Co., Ltd. Cause: (See description below) Lives Lost: 1 Category: Deceased and another hewer were working together in a long-wall face in the Low Main seam, 3 feet 10 inches thick, and at 3.30 p.m., or nearly at the end of their shift, while deceased was filling a tub, a mass of coal 13 feet long and 2 feet thick at the top tapering out at the bottom fell off the face nearly opposite the road head and struck him, rendering him unconscious, and he died the same evening. The coal overhung slightly but was not stayed. The parting at the top is slippery, and there was a slight appearance of a back at the point from which the coal fell. The deputy had visited the place at 1 p.m., and there was a good supply of timber.
