The Disaster At The Margaret Pit

Official Report

There has just been issued the report by Mr. Alexander Young, who was instructed by the Solicitor of the Treasury to watch, on behalf of the Crown, the proceedings at the inquest held on the bodies of the 13 men who were killed at the Margaret Pit, Newbottle, Durham, on June 3rd. After giving due consideration to all the circumstances of the case, Mr. Young states his opinion that no negligence can be attributed to the officials of the Margaret Pit, thus endorsing the verdict of the coroner's jury, who laid the whole blame on the inaccuracy of the old working plan of the Elizabeth Pit.
