Turgon led his people to the Hidden Realm from their former homes in Nevrast, and they remained there in secret for centuries. When at last they emerged, it was to fight in the Nirnaeth Arnoediad, but after the loss of that great battle, the Gondolindrim retreated again to their Hidden City behind its mountain walls. At last Morgoth discovered them through the treachery of Maeglin, and Gondolin fell, the last of the Elf-realms of Beleriand to be destroyed.
