He played a leading part in the Music of the Ainur through which the world was made. He descended into that world at its beginning, leading many others of the Ainur to work to fulfil it, and to stand against the destructiveness of Melkor. He was appointed by Ilúvatar to become the ruler of the world, and he remained High King of Arda from its earliest days, watching over it from his high halls on Taniquetil. See also...
