Description:
An employee of a boiler-making firm suffered localized radiation injury from handling of a 27-curie iridium-192 source. The details of exposure were not immediately known since the exposure was not immediately recognized. The employee developed radiation injuries to his hands which were only connected to his exposure when his dosimeter was processed and showed a dose of 20 rem. The exposure to his hands was over 3,000 rem.
**Consequences:**1 injury.
