Golden Retrievers

Golden Retrievers were developed in the 19th century by the gamekeepers at the Guisachan (pronounced Gooeesicun) estate of Lord Tweedmouth at Inverness-Shire. The link here is to part of the American Kennel Club site.

Kinlochroag Fold of Pedigree Highland Cattle

Uig is home to the Kinlochroag Fold of pedigree highland cattle. The site provides information on the area and the history of the Fold - the oldest pedigree breed of cattle in the world and the first breed to be registered. The Highland Cattle Society's first herd book dates from 1884.

Whitelums Pedigree Limousin Cattle

Whitelums is based near Inverurie in Aberdeenshire and was established in 1992 to create a herd of pedigree Limousin cattle. The herd is well illustrated on these Web pages and there is background information on this attractive breed.

Cats Protection Inverurie

Useful for all cat lovers, not just those in Inverurie, the site gives advice on what to do if your cat is lost or you have found a stray cat, ways to help cats in general, quizzes and puzzles, cat facts and quotes. There's also background on cats available for rehoming or sponsorship, tales from around the district - and of course lots of photos of the moggies which have passed through the Inverurie agency.

Mossburn Animal Centre

Mossburn animal sanctuary is based in SW Scotland in Dumfries & Galloway near the town of Lockerbie. It is home to a wide variety of animals including cattle, horses, ponies, pigs, goats, poultry, rabbits, guinea pigs, sheep, raccoons, reptiles and wildlife ... and more ... They rescue misused, abused, unwanted and neglected animals and provide work placements for children and adults with problems who find working among animals very therapeutic. Visitors are made very welcome at Mossburn (though they had to close during the foot and mouth outbreak in 2001). The attractive site has lots of illustrations of the creatures which have been rescued or are permanent residents.
