He held the Dutch record of goalsfor the national team from April 27, 1931 (when he equalled the total of Mannus Francken) until March 29, 1936 (when his total was surpassed by Bep Bakhuys). He obtained his first 11 caps while playing at the second level(tweede klasse).

Younger brother of Gerard Tap; the two played one match together in the national team.
