History in a Pecan Shell

The town may have been named for either the bois d'arc trees - which were also called Osage Oranges, or the Indian tribe. People started arriving in the area sometime around 1860. A post office was in operation from 1878 all the way until 1965.

The town might have prospered except for a fire in 1936 that destroyed most of downtown. Osage's school consolidated with Crawford ISD in 1947. The Baptist church shown above has been in continuous use (on Sundays) for over 100 years.
