History on a Pinhead

Butler dates from the early 1870s with the arrival of the Texas and New Orleans Railroad, but there was no pressing need for a post office. No one bothered to keep track of the population either. The major industry in the region was brick-making.

The 1930 census reported 107 residents � and that figure remained in place through WWII. It rose to a peak of 150 people in the late 1940s and that figure stood until the late 1960s. It has managed to remain on most maps throughout the 20th century and into the 21st.
