Curry, Texas, Stephens County submerged ghost town. (original) (raw)

History on a Pecan Shell

The town's namesake was J. C. Curry who arrived in the area in 1881. It enjoyed a brief boom in the 1920s after oil was discovered. The population swelled to 300 but declined just as fast once the oil disappeared.

Curry is now on the list of ghost towns that have been submerged under man-made lakes.
