Archibald Kennedy, Earl of Cassillis1

Archibald Kennedy, Earl of Cassillis was born on 4 June 1794.1 He was the son of Archibald Kennedy, 1st Marquess of Ailsa and Margaret Erskine.1 He married Eleanor Allardyce, daughter of Alexander Allardyce, on 1 May 1814 at Dun House, EnglandG.1 He died on 12 August 1832 at age 38 at Cassillis House, Ayrshire, ScotlandG.1
He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Evesham in 1830.1 He was styled as Earl of Cassillis between 1831 and 1832.1

Archibald Kennedy, 1st Marquess of Ailsa1

Archibald Kennedy, 1st Marquess of Ailsa was born in February 1770.1 He was the son of Captain Archibald Kennedy, 11th Earl of Cassillis and Anne Watts.1 He married Margaret Erskine, daughter of John Erskine and Mary Baird, on 1 June 1793 at Dun, Angus, ScotlandG.1 He died on 8 September 1846 at age 76 at St. Margaret's, Isleworth, London, EnglandG.1 He was buried at Dun, Angus, ScotlandG.1 His will (dated 11 September 1843) was proven (by probate) in November 1846, at £160,000.1
In 1790 he raised an independent Company of Foot.1 He succeeded as the 12th Earl of Cassillis [S., 1509] on 30 December 1794.1 He succeeded as the 14th Lord Kennedy [S., 1458] on 30 December 1794. He held the office of a Representative Peer [Scotland] between 1796 and 1806.1 He was created 1st Baron Ailsa, of Ailsa, co. Ayr [U.K.] on 12 November 1806.1 He was appointed Fellow, Royal Society (F.R.S.)1 He was appointed Knight, Order of the Thistle (K.T.) on 17 July 1821.1 He was created 1st Marquess of Ailsa, of the Isle of Ailsa, co. Ayr [U.K.] on 10 September 1831.1 On 14 April 1832 as a consistent Liberal, he voted for the Reform Bill.1

Margaret Erskine1

Margaret Erskine was born on 20 January 1772.1 She was the daughter of John Erskine and Mary Baird.1 She married Archibald Kennedy, 1st Marquess of Ailsa, son of Captain Archibald Kennedy, 11th Earl of Cassillis and Anne Watts, on 1 June 1793 at Dun, Angus, ScotlandG.1 She died on 5 January 1848 at age 75 at St. Margaret's, Isleworth, London, EnglandG, from influenza.1
Her married name became Kennedy. After her marriage, Margaret Erskine was styled as Countess of Cassillis on 30 December 1794. After her marriage, Margaret Erskine was styled as Marchioness of Ailsa on 10 September 1831.
