He gained the rank of Captain and Adjutant in the 2nd Dragoons.1 He fought in the First World War between 1917 and 1918.1 He was awarded the Military Cross (M.C.)1 He succeeded as the 7th Baron Monteagle of Westport, co. James Richard Stanhope, 7th Earl Stanhope was born on 11 November 1880.1 He was the son of Arthur Philip Stanhope, 6th Earl Stanhope and Evelyn Henrietta Pennefather.1 He married Lady Eileen Agatha Browne, daughter of George Ulick Browne, 6th Marquess of Sligo and Agatha Stewart Hodgson, on 16 April 1921.1 He died on 15 August 1967 at age 86.1
He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, England.3 He was educated at Magdalen College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England.3 He gained the rank of officer in 1901 in the Greandier Guards.3 He fought in the Boer War in 1902.3 He succeeded as the 7th Earl Stanhope [G.B., 1718] on 19 April 1905.1 He succeeded as the 7th Baron Stanhope of Elvaston, co. Derby [G.B., 1717] on 19 April 1905.1 He succeeded as the 7th Viscount Stanhope of Mahon, in the island of Minorca [G.B., 1717] on 19 April 1905.1 He fought in the First World War between 1914 and 1918, where he was mentioned in dispatches twice.3 He was awarded the Military Cross (M.C.) in 1916.1 He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) in 1917.1 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) on 7 May 1929.1 He was appointed Knight, Order of the Garter (K.G.) on 1 January 1934.1 He succeeded as the 13th Baron Stanhope of Shelford, co.
