Maj.-Gen. John Hamilton was born after 1647.1 He was the son of Hon. Sir George Hamilton, 1st Bt. and Lady Mary Butler.1 He married Elizabeth M'Can, daughter of Glesney M'Can and Eleanor Folliard, in January 1690 at Six-mile Bridge, County Clare, IrelandG.1 He died after July 1691 at Dublin, County Dublin, IrelandG, a prisoner, from his wounds.1
He gained the rank of Major-General from 1690 to 1691.1 He fought in the Battle of Aughrim on 12 July 1691, where he was wounded.1
