Lady Mary Butler was the daughter of Thomas Butler, Viscount Thurles and Elizabeth Poyntz.2,3 A contract for the marriage of Lady Mary Butler and Hon. Sir George Hamilton, 1st Bt. was signed on 2 June 1629.4 She died in August 1680.1
Her married name became Hamilton. On 29 May 1669 she was granted the rank of an earl's daughter.5

James Butler, 1st Duke of Ormonde was born on 19 October 1610.4 He was the son of Thomas Butler, Viscount Thurles and Elizabeth Poyntz.5,1 He married Elizabeth Preston, Baroness Dingwall, daughter of Richard Preston, 1st Earl of Desmond and Lady Elizabeth Butler, in September 1629.6 He died on 21 July 1688 at age 77.5
He gained the rank of Captain of Horse in 1631.5 He succeeded as the 12th Earl of Ormonde [I., 1328] on 24 February 1632/33.6 He succeeded as the 4th Viscount Thurles [I., 1536] on 24 February 1632/33.6 He succeeded as the 5th Earl of Ossory [I., 1528] on 24 February 1632/33.6 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) Sir George Hamilton, Comte Hamilton was born circa 1635.2 He was the son of Hon. Sir George Hamilton, 1st Bt. and Lady Mary Butler.1 He married Frances Jenyns, daughter of Richard Jenyns and Frances Thornhurst, in 1665.3 He died after 25 February 1675/76 killed in action.4
He gained the title of Comte Hamilton [France].5 He gained the rank of officer before 1667 in the Horse Guards.6 He gained the rank of Captain-Lieutenant in the French service.6 He fought in the Battle of Turkenheim on 5 January 1675.6 He gained the rank of Brevet Brigadier of Infantry on 12 March 1675.6 He gained the rank of Maréchal du Camp on 25 February 1676.6

Frances, Duchess of Tyrconnell

Frances Jenyns was born circa 1648.3 She was the daughter of Richard Jenyns and Frances Thornhurst.4 She married, firstly, Sir George Hamilton, Comte Hamilton, son of Hon. Sir George Hamilton, 1st Bt. and Lady Mary Butler, in 1665.5 She married, secondly, Richard Talbot, 1st Duke of Tyrconnell, son of Sir William Talbot, 1st Bt. and Alison Netterville, after 2 November 1681 at Paris, FranceG.4 She died on 9 March 1730/31 at Dublin, County Dublin, IrelandG.1,6 She was buried on 9 March 1730/31 at St. Patrick's Cathedral, Dublin, County Dublin, IrelandG.7
She was also known as Frances Jennings.8 Frances Jenyns also went by the nick-name of 'La Belle Jenyns'.1 From 1665, her married name became Hamilton. In 1677 she was intended to have been created Countess of Bantry or Countess of Berehaven, but patent ever passed the seals.9 From after 2 November 1681, her married name became Talbot. After her marriage, Frances Jenyns was styled as Duchess of Tyrconnell.10

Richard Talbot, 1st Duke of Tyrconnell was born in 1630.1 He was the son of Sir William Talbot, 1st Bt. and Alison Netterville.3,4 He married, firstly, Katherine Boynton, daughter of Matthew Boynton and Isabel Stapleton, in 1669.2 He married, secondly, Frances Jenyns, daughter of Richard Jenyns and Frances Thornhurst, after 2 November 1681 at Paris, FranceG.1 He died on 14 August 1691.3
Richard Talbot, 1st Duke of Tyrconnell also went by the nick-name of 'Lying Dick Talbot'.3 He was a royalist during the Wars in Ireland and a royalist agent in England during the Interregnum.3 He was in French service against Spanish in 1650.3 He was Groom of the Bedchamber to the Duke of York (later King James II.)3 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the the Duke of York's Regiment of Foot.3 He gained the rank of officer in the Royal Navy, during the 3rd Dutch War.3 He gained the rank of Captain from 1672 to 1673 in the Lord Berkeley's Regiment of Horse.3 From 1678 to 1679 as a Roman Catholic he fell victim to suspicion of complicity in the Popish Plot and was imprisoned.3 He gained the rank of Colonel of Horse circa January 1684/85.3 He was created 1st Baron of Talbotstown, co.
