Lt.-Gen. Sir Arthur Francis Smith was born on 9 December 1890.2 He was the son of Colonel Granville Roland Francis Smith and Lady Blanche Catherine Keith-Falconer.3 He married Monica Victoria Crossley, daughter of Savile Brinton Crossley, 1st Baron Somerleyton and Phyllis de Bathe, on 19 September 1918.1 He died on 8 August 1977 at age 86.2
He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, England.2 He was commissioned in 1910 with the rank of officer, in the service of the Coldstream Guards.1 He was educated at Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst, Berkshire, England.2 He fought in the First World War between 1914 and 1918, where he was wounded three times.2 He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) in 1918.1 He was awarded the Military Cross (M.C.)1 He gained the rank of Brigadier between 1938 and 1939 in the General Staff, British Troops in Egypt.2 He was CGS of the Middle East in 1940.2 He was appointed Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.) in 1941.2 He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of the British Empire (K.B.E.) in 1942.1 He was GOC of the London District between 1942 and 1944.2 He was GOC-in-C of the Persia and Iraq Command between 1944 and 1945.2 He was GOC-in-C of the Eastern Command, India between 1945 and 1946.2 He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of the Bath (K.C.B.) in 1946.1 He was Commander of the British Forces in India and Pakistan in November 1947.2 He held the office of Lieutenant of the Tower of London between 1948 and 1951.2

Auriol Blanche Smith was born on 25 July 1919.1 She was the daughter of Lt.-Gen. Sir Arthur Francis Smith and Monica Victoria Crossley.2 She married Major Michael Warren Ingram, son of Sir Herbert Ingram, 2nd Bt. and Hilda Vivian Lake, on 13 October 1944.2 She died on 12 October 2008 at age 89.3
From 13 October 1944, her married name became Ingram.

Sir Herbert Ingram, 2nd Bt. was born on 26 September 1875.2 He is the son of Sir William James Ingram, 1st Bt. and Mary Eliza Collingwood Stirling.2 He married Hilda Vivian Lake, daughter of Colonel Carson Lake, on 5 February 1908.2 He died on 1 June 1958 at age 82.2
He graduated in 1897 with a Winchester and Exeter College Oxford Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)2 ) He gained the rank of Captain in the Royal East Kent Yeomanry Cavalry.2 He fought in the First World War.2 He gained the rank of Temporary Lieutenant-Commander in the Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve.2 He gained the rank of Major in the Royal Air Force.2 He succeeded as the 2nd Baronet Ingram, of Swineshead Abbey, co. Lincoln [U.K., 1893] on 18 December 1924.2 He was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Letters (D.Litt.) by Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England, in 1958.2
