How We Got Oh-So-Pleasantly Sucked Into Harry/Draco

1. Melanie's Adventure

Melanie's story began in July of 2005 at her LiveJournal (melle). Melanie was a Viggorlean - a small creature with hairy feet and a large appetite for Viggorli porn, not normally prone to adventuring. On the night her life changed forever, she stumbled across a shiny list of Harry/Draco recs while trolling through unfamiliar journals, people who had found the stories after they were written by creatures called Drarry Shippers.

Melanie set off on a treacherous journey through the wilds of the Harry Potter Fandom, encountering strange lubrication spells, Veela!Draco clichés, and fell BNFs. Along the way, she met several other Viggorleans who were making the same journey, all seeking the same thing: a gorgeous seventh-year Draco and Harry, getting it on in the Room of Requirement. Most notable of these companions were Elanna, the Keeper of the Shiny Recs List; J, the Keeper of the Accio Porn Spell; and Rosi, the Keeper of the Smiley Draco Icon and the Mad Awesome Photoshop Skillz In General.*

2. Elanna's Adventure

Elanna had always looked askance at the HP fandom (too big, centered around schoolkids, what!?) and never even thought twice about it. Until … until … one day when bored, she happened to click on a Harry/Draco rec. That one fic was all it took; Elanna promptly went insane and began mainlining Harry / Draco. She spent many sleepless nights glued to her monitor, twitching in the grips of an all-consuming obsession. She ventured into the deep, shark-infested waters of the Harry Potter fandom, desperate for that next hit, and found it VAST (beyond her wildest imaginings), populated by BNF’s and others with no interest in a latecomer to the fandom. She’s since waded through many, many bad!fics, not to mention truly dark stories and super-depressing angst-fests, and found herself puzzled by the customs and behavior in a very different fandom.

Still, the obsession continues. Elanna has also found a new OTP (Harry/ Draco) and some amazing writers producing some of the highest quality fanfiction she’s read. She loves the possibilities inherant in what is initially an extremely antagonistic relationship – denial! extreme snarkiness! repressed desire! – as well as all of the different genres of fics possible without even going AU: school fics (at Hogwarts), wartime fics, post-war fics, post-Hogwarts fics. Most of all, she’s had the pleasure of meeting some truly lovely and interesting people along the way … and hopes to continue to do so. :)

We journey still. Come and band together with us, there's safety in numbers!
