Very few studies have been published on the subject and very little is known about true incidence of condition. There are no clear guidelines regarding the prophylaxis for venous thromboembolism for an Indian patient. A prospective study was carried in the Department of General Surgery, Medical College and hospital, Kolkata to determine the incidence of deep vein thrombosis. Present study included 127 patients undergoing major general surgeries (including abdomen, pelvis and lower extremities) over a 1 year period. All the patients were subjected to Duplex USG between the 7th and 14th postoperative period. No mechanical and chemical form of DVT prophylaxis was used. Only eight patients (6.29 %) showed sonographic evidence of DVT and the majority of them resolved without treatment. There was no case of pulmonary embolism. Deep vein thrombosis following major general surgery in Indian patients is not as common as reported in the Western literature. A high level of suspicion and close clinical monitoring is mandatory. In our opinion routine chemoprophylaxis is perhaps not justified in every patient undergoing major general surgery, which can be of great help to both mankind and nation.

Common locations of Castleman’s disease are mediastinum, neck, axilla, and abdomen. Castleman’s disease of a peripancreatic location masquerading as pancreatic neoplasm is an even rarer entity. On search of published data, we came across about 17 cases published on peripancreatic Castleman’s disease until now. Here we are reporting a case of retropancreatic Castleman's disease masquerading as retroperitoneal neoplasm in a 46-year-old male patient.

As the presentation is usually not specific and lack of any typical evidences in imagine or other laboratory studies, so the preoperative diagnosis is often difficult. Here we are reporting a rare case of retroperitoneal schwannoma in an 18 years old male patient presenting as an asymptomatic retroperitoneal lump in the lower abdomen. Histopathological examination following surgical excision of the lump revealed benign retroperitoneal schwannoma, which was confirmed by immunohistochemistry. OZET Retroperitoneal schwannoma nadir gorulen bir tumordur. Hastaligin belirtilerinin degisken olmasi, laboratuvar ve goruntuleme calismalarinin nonspesifik olmasi nedeniyle, preoperatif tani genellikle zordur. Burada 18 yasindaki bir erkek hastamizda gorulen alt abdomen retroperitoneal bolgede yerlesmis olan asemptomatik benign schwannoma olgusu sunuldu. Histopatolojik muayene sonucunda konulan tani immunhistokimyasal olarak teyid edildi.

Many case reports of lytic bony metastasis have been reported in literature but involvement of only soft tissue of oral cavity is very rare. It may be a diagnostic challenge to clinician if it is the isolated site of distant metastasis. We report a very rare case of breast cancer metastases to oral cavity soft tissue.

Materials and Methods: A descriptive observational study was carried out at R.G. Kar Medical College, Kolkata over a period of one and half years (January 2012 to June 2013). Fifty one diagnosed cases of carcinoma gall bladder (proven either on preoperative/peroperative biopsy or computed tomography or ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration cytology) were included as study subjects. Interview of the study subjects for eliciting socio-demographic, reproductive and other risk factors was done. Information on clinical and histological staging was ascertained by review of relevant records/reports as well as clinical examination as and when applicable. Results: Our study revealed that gallbladder cancer has a prominent peak in the 5th decade of life with the mean age of ...

But every modality has its own pros and cons. The aim of our study was to compare various surgical modalities in term of its recurrence rate, cost and their complication rates Materials and methods: A prospective observational study was conducted with 50 patients from July 2016 to June 2018. Prospective data was collected on proforma basis regarding clinical presentation, imaging findings, various surgical modalities, complications and reoperation rate. RESULTS: The mean age of the patients was 40.04 ± 10.77 years. The most common type of surgery was Fistulectomy (28%) and Fistula plug (28%) followed by Fistulotomy (20%), Seton Application (16%) and Video Assisted Anal Fistula Treatment (VAAFT) (8%).8 (16%) patients required reoperation. There was no significant association of reoperation and type of surgery in patients (p>0.05). The mean values of post-operative recovery...
