T’was The Fight Before Christmas
Jewish groups worry the latest claims of ‘war’ against Christmas will fuel anti-Semitism.

Disagreements over holiday symbols like Capitol Hill’s Christmas tree are down, but Jews are seen behind “war on Christmas.”

Intensifying charges by some Evangelical groups of a “war on Christmas” — and claims by a new group of Jewish conservatives that Jews are particularly guilty — could fuel traditional religious anti-Semitism, some Jewish leaders said this week.

“Obviously, we’re seeing more than just the usual annual stuff about Christmas,” said Rabbi Abraham Cooper, associate dean of the Simon Wiesenthal Center in Los Angeles. “Christmas is becoming entangled in the culture war issues of our day.”

Claims of a well-orchestrated war on Christmas have been boosted by talk-show hosts, especially on Fox News, he said.

Some prominent Christian leaders have suggested a Jewish role in Christmas bashing, as well.
