It is seen as the most influential and the most important technology in this sense (Lievrouw 2001: 22-23, Dickson 2000). Internet usage among university students involves not only the use of leisure time, but also their community involvement and social networking. Student communities are now facing major social issues like isolation, thus pulling down their cultural values by accessing the virtual sites as well as pornography sites. This study explores not only the impact of the frequent use of internet for non-academic purpose by the students of state universities in Tamil Nadu, India but also its effect on the psychological aspects such as mental depression, isolation from the society and addiction. But, it is noticed that more than fifty percentage of children are experiencing right violations in India. The Indian society is almost not aware about the children’s rights. Media are also not properly covering the news related to children. They cover children related news with less care. Using content analysis as a methodological tool, this paper analyse the ethical practices practiced by the leading Tamil newspapers Dailythanthi, Dinakaran, Dinamalar, The Hindu (Tamil) and Dinamani while covering children related news. This study concludes that except Dinamani the other Tamil Newspapers are having unethical way of covering children related news and this study recommends that special training should be provided to the media professionals about the ethical norms of children related news coverage. Movies are the visual-auditory symbolic narrative that explains the living reality of people. Fil... more Movies are the visual-auditory symbolic narrative that explains the living reality of people. Films employ Carl Jung's concept of archetypes-prototypical characters. This research provides an insight about the theory of archetype based on the assumption that archetypes resides deep inside human mind. The researcher proposes that the Malayalam film industry in India showcases the western concept of archetype using the movie Urumi as a case study. For this study, different clips are taken from the movie to represent six essential archetypes, namely, Hero, Anima, Animus, Mentor (sage), Shadow, and Trickster. The psychoanalysis of this movie carried out in this paper provides evidence for the existence of all six essential archetypes identified by Carl Jung. Thus this article will be a fruitful resource for future research in the field of psychoanalysis of movies.

Background/ Objectives: The present day students, research supervisors and faculty members depend... more Background/ Objectives: The present day students, research supervisors and faculty members depend on Google search engine as a tool for collecting information on any specific topic of interest. There is a need to understand what extent the materials selected is relevant for their work under consideration. This study investigates the outcome of the use of Google search engine for the choice of material and the reading habits among the research supervisors, research scholars, faculty members and graduate students. Methods: Questionnaires were used to conduct the survey. The responses were obtained through telephonic interviews or receiving duly filled in questionnaire through E-mail. Findings: It has been identified that search engines like Google has reduced the level of lateral thinking and force the academicians to depend on Google for information. This actively reduces the thinking process and developing innovative research ideas. Applications/ Improvements: The use of search engine has resulted in thinking less and searching more when it comes to academic purpose, which also drastically reduces the analytical capability.

The Government of India has taken initiative to create awareness about the health consequences of smoking. The image on the cigarette packets to gorier and disturbing pictures is an example for the same. In this paper the researchers analyzed the impact of the warning caption and image on the cigarette packets on the youth. Based on survey method and focus group discussion it was found that the warning captions and visuals are not communicating the message in an appropriate way.

Within the context of rapid technological change and shift in market conditions, the Indian education system is challenged with the problem of expanding its educational opportunities. The concept of governance applied to universities in India is related to the exercise of controlling the power of different centers and departments which are part of an Indian affiliating university. This research paper aims to understand the institutional preparedness for e-governance in Indian Affiliating Universities from the perspective of teaching faculty. The data is collected through questionnaire and analyzed using factor analysis.

One of their most successful Iranian filmmakers is Majid Majidi, whose films have gained plenty of international acclaim. Most of his films showcase strong family bonds and socially relevant plots. Even as the central plot of the movie 'Children of Heaven' revolves around a pair of lost shoes, Majidi shows the beautiful relationship between a brother and sister in the midst of all the struggles and hardships they face. There are a number of scenes in the movie where the siblings' love for each other is narrated through point of view narrative style. This paper analyses and understands how the brotherly and sisterly affection is portrayed in the film through content analysis method.

The Wayanadan culture is mainly carved out from the different tribal communities. They do not have any basic infrastructure and the literacy level is very low. Most tribes do not have very much interaction with the outside world and hence the governments are helpless in upgrading their living standard. Radio Mattoli is a community radio started in the year 2009 with the aim of developing the socio economic and the cultural status of the marginalized society at Wayanad. In this study, the researcher could get a positive result on the reach as well as the impact of the community radio. Development of alternative medium for indigenous group not only helps in communicating local news and information, but it also helps in improving quality of life of the people.

A non-governmental organization (NGO) is committed to furthering a significant social cause and upholding a specific perspective in a community. Tonello (2011) theoretical framework for corporate social responsibility communication consists of CSR communication, contingency factors and communication outcomes. The purpose of this work is to apply the Tonello's Framework for corporate social responsibility communication on Arulagam in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India. Arulagam concentrates on the conservation of the ecosystem by protesting against practices that affect the land, water, and air. It also addresses other key issues as such nature conservation, including wildlife and coastal environment. The study concludes that Tonello's Framework for corporate social responsibility communication is applicable for Arulagam.
