The endeavor of the present study is to identify and compare the characteristics of cited and unc... more The endeavor of the present study is to identify and compare the characteristics of cited and uncited publications in the field of reference services. The phrase 'reference service' was searched in the document search tab of Scopus database and found 2612 results, which were limited to social science subject area and hence got 2021 results. The retrieved data was then restricted to journal source type and found 1900 results out of 2021. At last, the data was confined to library and information science journals in source titles and retrieved the actual data for the study i.e., 1861 number of articles. The data was then downloaded and finally analyzed on the basis of the year of publication, authors, subject areas, document type, source titles, affiliation, countries, funding agencies and keywords. It was revealed that most of the documents in the field of Reference services are cited and majority of the cited articles are published in the year 2001 whereas two recent consecutive years i.e.

The purpose of the present study is to know the available reference sources and reference service... more The purpose of the present study is to know the available reference sources and reference services provided by the select CSIR laboratory libraries situated at Delhi. The author use survey method and use questionnaire as a tool for data collection. A total number of 5 questionnaires personally distributed to the library In-charge and received total 5 questionnaires. The major findings of the study revealed that CSIR-NISCAIR library has highest number of collection i.e. 250000 and also has highest number of reference collection i.e.50000. All the select libraries have encyclopedia, dictionaries, government documents, yearbooks and Annuals in their reference collection in print form. In electronic form most of the library have abstract & index and standard. All the select libraries except CSIR-NISTADS offered DRS to its user. ABSTRACT To assess the research performance of state universities of Uttar Pradesh in science and... more ABSTRACT To assess the research performance of state universities of Uttar Pradesh in science and technology field, the present study analysed all the twenty three state universities of the state under the shadow of Scopus database from 2006-2010. All the universities were searched in the database using the ‘affiliation search’ and it was found that only eleven universities were indexed by the database. The data of these universities were downloaded and analysed by the methods of scientometrics. It was revealed that the University of Lucknow comes out to be the top ranked university of the state, followed by Deen Dayal Upadhyay Gorakhpur University. While as it was also found that out of the eleven universities, Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel University of Agriculture and Technology were the least productive university in science and technology in the selected period of study. The study further analysed the various research patterns of the publications like the yearly distribution, subjects areas covered, document types used, languages used for communication, etc. Besides, it gives the top 50 ranked list of journals and the most prolific authors of these universities as well.

The online computerized catalogue popularly known as OPAC lets to search the terms of user's choice throughout the database of the holdings of a particular library. Users can make choice from a menu of different options through simple, advance, phrase searching, etc. in OPAC. In order to find out the use of search strategies in OPAC, the investigators have adopted survey method for present study. Under survey method, questionnaire and interview tools were used for collecting the necessary data. The present study reveals that a large number of users are using simple search and lesser number use advance searching. It is worthwhile to note that advance search facilities in OPAC enhance user's satisfaction by providing filtered, high recall and high precision results. The study explores citation pattern of the 4112 articles in the field of chemical engineering pub... more The study explores citation pattern of the 4112 articles in the field of chemical engineering published from 1974 to 2018 and indexed in Web of Science. Apart from good quality research, a number of other factors may be responsible for citing and not citing an article. The study has also tried to explore such factors. Only the top 500 articles with the most number of citations have been analysed in-depth. The countries like United States of America (USA), China, Germany, United Kingdom (UK), France, Canada, India, Japan, Spain, Russia and Brazil have the highest number of articles. The investigators calculated Pearson correlation between the number of keywords, pages, references and citations and it showed that there is no relationship between the number of keywords and number of citations. The number of pages and the number of references in a publication have a significant and positive impact on the number of citations.

The variables examined were research performance of nations, institutions, and authors. The study noted that the distribution of author keywords, citations, and publication patterns of saffron related articles to ascertain the research inclinations. The highly cited articles and author keyword analysis showed that the chemical and biochemical qualities of saffron were of key interest for the researchers.

The main aim of the study was to assess the contents of the highly cited articles of select Emera... more The main aim of the study was to assess the contents of the highly cited articles of select Emerald LIS journals and to find the reasons behind the high rate of citations and hence their quality. There are a total of 36 journals in the field of Library and Information Science in Emerald Insight database out of which 21 journals are indexed in web of science. The study examines only 8 journals based on the subscription and availability of the archives in the campus so that there is a uniformity in the years assessed. Besides, the present study analyzed only the 30 highly cited articles (of the eight selected journals) using web of science database and assessed the reasons and quality of these highly cited articles on different parameters based on the content analysis of the full texts of the articles. It was revealed that the 'Library Hi Tech' journal has the highest number of cited articles and all the selected journals have highest number of cited articles in the year 2015 except the journal 'Performance Measurement and Metric'. It was also evident that number of highly cited papers are contributed by USA and more importantly produced by single authors. Most of the cited articles are published with social media as subject area and adopted survey method to conduct the study. Further analysis of the results shows that maximum number of the cited papers is without literature review, hypotheses and research questions. They have cited references ranging from 21-30 and have mentioned their findings, discussion and conclusion separately.

Design/methodology/approach The descriptive method was used for conducting the study, in which a well-structured questionnaire was administered followed by interview of the librarians of six engineering college libraries under study. Findings It was found that these colleges are much more interested in focusing on building a strong e-resource collection in their libraries. The highest (4788) publications were produced in the year 2013 and the lowest (2238) was in the year 2009. The highest number of publications was produced by USA followed by England. Thuiller, W followed by Smith, P. were the most prolific authors in the field of climate change. The journal articles were the most widely used document forms followed by reviews. The prolific journals were ‘Climatic change’ and ‘Global change biology’. The study also assessed the citation patterns including the country's citations, citations of affiliated institutes, and average, self and unique citations received of select years.

K. Kelkar Library, IIT Kanpur and Allama Iqbal Library, Kashmir University. The study highlights the general as well as specific features of OPAC of software packages used by the select libraries. The investigators were of the impression that OPACs of select IITs may be advanced as compared to Allama Iqbal Library. However, it was revealed that Allama Iqbal Library is ahead of both the select IIT libraries in terms of availability and utilization of features of its OPAC. Nevertheless, it is disappointing to point out that none of the select libraries are using all the features of OPAC provided by their softwares. Purpose The purpose of this paper is to analyze the e-resource collection development practices o... more Purpose The purpose of this paper is to analyze the e-resource collection development practices of the engineering college libraries of Aligarh. The research includes budgeting, collection development policy, collection evaluation, sources of funds, modes of procurement, pricing models and other aspects related to collection development activity. Design/methodology/approach The descriptive method was used for conducting the study, in which a well-structured questionnaire was administered followed by interview of the librarians of six engineering college libraries under study. Findings It was found that these colleges are much more interested in focusing on building a strong e-resource collection in their libraries. During the past few years, the budget has also been increased in majority of libraries for the acquisition of e-resources. The highest (4788) publications were produced in the year 2013 and the lowest (2238) was in the year 2009. The highest number of publications was produced by USA followed by England. Thuiller, W followed by Smith, P. were the most prolific authors in the field of climate change. The journal articles were the most widely used document forms followed by reviews. The prolific journals were ‘Climatic change’ and ‘Global change biology’. The study also assessed the citation patterns including the country's citations, citations of affiliated institutes, and average, self and unique citations received of select years.

K. Kelkar Library, IIT Kanpur and Allama Iqbal Library, Kashmir University. The study highlights the general as well as specific features of OPAC of software packages used by the select libraries. The investigators were of the impression that OPACs of select IITs may be advanced as compared to Allama Iqbal Library. However, it was revealed that Allama Iqbal Library is ahead of both the select IIT libraries in terms of availability and utilization of features of its OPAC. Nevertheless, it is disappointing to point out that none of the select libraries are using all the features of OPAC provided by their softwares. Furthermore, the study revealed that the access of OPACs of select IITs is restricted to the campus only, while as the OPAC of Allama Iqbal Library can be accessed anytime anywhere on the web. The online computerized catalogue popularly known as OPAC lets to search the terms of user’s choice throughout the database of the holdings of a particular library. Users can make choice from a menu of different options through simple, advance, phrase searching, etc. in OPAC. The present study reveals that a large number of users are using simple search strategy and lesser number uses advance searching. Of all the select libraries, it was found that the advance searching was comparatively less used by the users of Kashmir University. It is worthwhile to note that search strategies particularly advance search facilities in OPAC have enhanced user’s satisfaction by providing filtered, high recall and high precision results.
