It was my first time wearing lolita at college and I was feeling pretty confident because I actually asked for permission from my 'friends' if I could wear it. You know, because some people can find lolita fashion weird and it might be embarrassing for them. They said yes so I assumed everything was going to be all good. How wrong I was. I entered my lesson a little later than my friends (they usually get there early, so it was only them in the room) because I previously printed out my assignment that was due in. Oh how they stared while giving a chorus of 'ohhhh myyy godddd'. Not the awestruck omg, the belittling 'you look so stupid' omg. I ignored their remarks and just smiled, hurried over and sat down. One of my friends claimed I looked like Velma from scooby doo.... WHAT HOW? I was wearing a bittersweet pink/black coord, not an orange turtleneck sweater and a red miniskirt. My hair's not even brown... Then I got a comment from another so called friend (who I actually hate so I'm not too bothered about what she has to say) that my skirt was too long. I tried to educate them on the fashion to give them a better understanding of what I was wearing but they wouldn't take it. They just ignored what I had to say and continued to believe I was trying to be from the 1940's or something... again not sure how they came up with this?The comments continued throughout the day, and the people who I thought would dislike my choice of clothing didn't even bat an eyelash. Go figure. Does anyone else have shitty friends? Would also like to mention that one of my lecturers gave me a funny look too. Sighhhhhh. Ah well. I know not to wear lolita to college again.Tags:first post I was out with my friend, walking around our small downtown in Lolita. She was dressed in Classic style, and I was dressed in Sweet style. We were just walking along and chatting, and heading to the English style tea shop for some tea (v. stereotypical, I know) when someone yelled something at us from behind. Now, something you should know is that my friend is much tougher than me. Neither of us had really heard what had been yelled, but we stopped and turned around anyways, as people do. The person was still a little ways off from us, but they yelled louder: "Where are your sheep?". We turned back around and kept walking. My friend looking irritated by it, but this was my first time out in full Lolita, and I already felt fairly nervous. We walking for a little while, and then the guy yelled something else at us. "You know Halloween isn't until October, right?" My friend just grabbed my arm and told me to keep walking, but I was feeling very nervous now, and I'd started sniffling. Finally, just before we got to the tea shop, the guy yelled "I'm not too into little girls, but I'd give you a try." I ran into the shop, now fully crying, and apparently my friend went and told him off or yelled at him. In the store the ladies were very comforting and supportive, but it wasn't until I'd gotten home that I stopped sniffling. All in all, it was a terrible first outing, and while I have gone out in Lolita again, I always feel pretty upset if someone comments on it. I'm not usually one to post all over the internet when I get annoyed about something, but today I am particularly pissed off at my mother for her complete and utter lack of support for anything I want to do, and today, that includes lolita. Oh, and her entitlement issues.I'm a new loli, though I've been lurking through the communities for about two or three years now, learning what I can and saving up for something nice. The other day, AP released its Twinkle Carnival series. I adored the print, and I had the money, so I bought the ivory & gold JSK for myself with refund money I got from a school loan. There's only one little problem: I can't fit into it just yet. I've been watching what I eat and going to the gym, and I've lost 20 pounds since mid-September, though I've still got about 30 more pounds to go before I reach my goal. I bought the dress because I didn't want to miss out on a gorgeous print like I had with many other AP prints when I hesitated, and because I wanted a little more motivation. ;)The dress arrived today, and upon excitedly showing it to my mother, I was immediately given a verbal beat down. I'm so fucking stupid for wasting my money on something that's never going to fit me. I was "too stupid" to use the Yen to USD conversion, or to note that the sizes were in cm. (What the fuck? I was using the SF website so the currency was in USD, which she attempted to locate but went to the Japanese site instead, so she screamed at me for something she didn't even know what she was talking about.) And above all, "THAT DRESS IS NEVER GOING TO FIT YOU. IT'S MADE FOR JAPANESE GIRLS WITH NO TITS OR ASS." All attempts to politely inform her that yes, I know the dress won't fit me right now, and that she was wrong about pretty much everything resulted in her shouting over me with, "IT'S NEVER GOING TO FIT YOU." Oh, and "YOU'RE AN IMBECILE. THAT WAS MY MONEY YOU SPENT." Lol no, it actually wasn't. It was my student loan refund, and there is STILL $800 left of it that I was going to give her for mortgage payments. Money that I AM GOING TO HAVE TO PAY BACK AND HAVE NO REQUIREMENT TO GIVE HER, but I still live at home, and because I try to be a good person. I don't want to see us lose our house. But that's not good enough, I guess.Thanks, Mom! All of those are great things to say to someone who has struggled with her appearance her entire life and who could use motivation from her family. But fuck it. Have fun continuing to sit on your ass and further deteriorate your health by smoking and eating crappy food all the time. While you're doing that, I'm going to keep going to the gym and losing weight, and I'm going to wear my dress in a few months, whether you think so or not.JESUS. That was longer than I intended, but I hope any other lolis with unsupportive parents (for whatever reason) will have further proof that they're not alone. You can do anything if you put effort into it, I believe. ♥Tags:family, first post I went to the Troy River Fest with a bunch of friends earlier today. It was a very sunny and warm day, but I was comfortable in my cream classic Meta coord and a parasol. The strawberry lemonade was delicious and everyone seems to be in a good mood.Unfortunately when I was walking around alone, 2 very rude "photographers" have decided to take pictures of me without my permission. They ran in front of me, took pictures with flash on, and they were laughing as they did that. I felt quite insulted. They were clearly laughing AT me. I decided to ignore them the first time round, but when I walked back to meet up with my friends... The guys started taking pictures again.I decided that they were crossing the line and had to be stopped.It took a lot of effort on my part because I'm an introvert, but I went up to the guys and told them that they are being very rude and disrespectful. One of the guys told me that since it's a public space, it's fair game. I would have agreed with them if they did not openly laugh at me as they ran in front of me to point their lenses to take pictures of me. We started (politely) arguing back and forth about how it's a bad thing to do. He asked me why I'd dress the way I do if I don't want my pictures taken. I tried (in vain) to explain to him that I'm alright with having my pictures taken as long as the photographer politely asked beforehand. Not long after, my friends spotted me and the guys stopped arguing with me.I have had my picture taken before, but people were generally nice and polite about it. They would give sincere compliments and then ask if it's alright for them to take my picture. Those guys were just being jerks. He said that he took my picture because he thought I looked "sharp". He also said that he's a good photographer. Yeah, sure.That was my first run-in with "that" kind of people after a little over a year wearing lolita fashion daily. We got lunch from the grocery store, and we were sitting in the plaza across the street from Baby, when this guy (probably in his 40's) with two pre-teen, completely preppy daughters walks by, and shouts "HEY. WHERE'D YOUR SHEEP GO?" at me, much to the amusement of his family. I sorta gave him an annoyed look and told him I didn't have any. I could maybe expect this anywhere else in my area, but not across the street from BTSSB. In Japantown.
