Anne Bronte (1820-1849) was the youngest of the Bronte family, and has consistently been ranked beneath her sisters Emily (Wuthering Heights) and Charlotte (Jane Eyre, etc). Some critics have even gone so far as to say that, were it not for her famous siblings, Anne Bronte would long be forgotten.

However, more and more people are re-evaluating her work, and appreciating Anne as an interesting and talented writer in her own right. Agnes Grey is a short, neatly constructed Austen-esque character study, while The Tenant of Wildfell Hall is a scathing critique of Victorian hypocrisy --- some (like myself) even feel it rivals Wuthering Heights in intensity and power. What's more, once you push aside the "nun-like veil" draped over "sweet, gentle Anne" by literary convention and Bronte mythology, you find an independent, insightful, strong, determined, and witty (yes, witty) woman.

This community is dedicated to her. It's a place for people to share thoughts, ideas, questions, discussions, and links pertaining to Anne Bronte. I hope you enjoy it.
