The preliminary study analyzes the perceptions of tourism management students about vaccine touri... more The preliminary study analyzes the perceptions of tourism management students about vaccine tourism who are unvaccinated, including an ethical perspective. The sample is 46 undergraduate students in a foundation university in Antalya-Turkey and the email interview is used to gather data from respondents due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Findings reveal that although some respondents support vaccine tourism in general except their concerns about the reliability of the vaccine, the vaccination process, and the quality of the vaccine, some respondents have ethical considerations in choosing where to be vaccinated and in which circumstances, they will take place in the vaccination process. The creation of unequal opportunities for the rich and the discrimination among the members of the society is vastly mentioned. The exploratory study enlightens the field of medical tourism in terms of vaccine tourism and ethical consumption of young generations for researchers and practitioners.

The preliminary study aims to understand the image of Olympos, a destination located in Antalya-T... more The preliminary study aims to understand the image of Olympos, a destination located in Antalya-Turkey, known to be a heaven for hippies and backpackers, with the potential of postmodern tourism. A long-term data is preferred to understand the changing image of the destination in time. Considering all Olympos accommodation enterprises registered for Tripadvisor, which is 63, 3795 tourist comments were posted between 2010 and 2020. Amongst these enterprises, 11 of them are selected as the sample due to being on Tripadvisor for more than 10 years with 1989 comments in total. Based on the content analysis, the perceived image of Olympos is identified as being different, comfortable, unobtrusive, environmental, non-luxury, communal, historyoriented, offering many activities etc. Whereas Olympos Spirit is claimed to be altered by some, the others claim that it has been the same for years. The findings both extend the literature on postmodern tourist behaviors, suggest practical managerial implications for the nature-focused destination authorities, and enlighten the research field for this mythological destination for scholars and practitioners.

Gıda ekosisteminin üre tim, tüketim, pazarlama, tarım, hayvancılık ve lojistik gibi farklı alanlarına odaklanarak, her birini etik tartışmaları ve sürdürülebilir uygulamaları ele almaktadır. Üretim aşamasında küreselleşme ve standartlaşmanın artışı, organik tarım gibi sertifikaların rolü, şeffaflık ve denetim gerekliliği gibi konular ele alınmıştır. İşletmelerin çevre duyarlılığı ve sürdürülebilir uygulamaları, paketleme malzemelerinin çevresel etkileri, pazarlama aşamalarındaki etik meseleler ele alınmıştır. Tarım ve hayvancılıkta, sürdürülebilir tarım, pestisit kullanımı, genetiği değiştirilmiş organizmalar, hayvan hakları gibi konular tartışılmıştır. Lojistik ve tedarik zinciri boyunca taşımacılığın çevresel etkileri, kısa tedarik zincirinin rolü ve bitki temelli yakıtlar gibi çözüm önerileri incelenmiştir. Tüketici açısından ise, bilinçli etik tüketici, gıda okuryazarlığı gibi konulara değinilmiştir. Sonuç olarak, gıda ekosisteminin etik ve sürdürülebilir yönetimi için teorik ve pratik bir çerçeve sunulmaktadır. Yerel üreticilerin desteklenmesi, fosil yakıtların alternatiflerle değiştirilmesi gibi çözüm önerileriyle, gıda sistemlerinin daha sürdürülebilir ve etik olması için atılacak adımları ele almaktadır.

Corporate websites are essential platforms through which firms introduce their goods and services... more Corporate websites are essential platforms through which firms introduce their goods and services on B2B and B2C level, express financial information for the stakeholders and share corporate values, purposes and activities. Due to its facilities, websites take part in firm positioning strategy. Accordingly this study aims to understand the innovation oriented positioning through corporate websites. The method applied in this study has been adapted from the 2QCV2Q Model developed by Mich and Franch (2000) to evaluate websites and top 30 firms with the highest Research and Development expenditures listed in Turkishtime (2015) have been analyzed. Within this context, this study presents a revised and updated method for the assessments of websites through positioning strategy framework. Findings indicate no direct relationship between website evaluation and R&D expenditure, though some common weaknesses have been put forward, such as information about management of the firms. Besides, publicly traded firms are recognized to facilitate websites more efficiently than non-publicly traded firms. Study contribute to both academia and practitioners as putting forward a new approach for 2QCV2Q Model and indicating the similarities and differences among the corporate websites through positioning perspective. Sağladığı faydalar sebebiyle, web siteleri konumlandırma stratejilerinin bir parçasıdır. Bu nedenle, bu çalışma inovasyon odaklı konumlandırmayı anlamayı amaçlamaktadır. Çalışmada, Mich ve Franch (2000) tarafından geliştirilen 2QCV2Q modeli web sitelerini değerlendirmek için uyarlanmıştır ve Turkishtime 2015 sıralamasında Ar-Ge'ye en fazla harcama yapan ilk 30 firmanın web siteleri incelenmiştir. Bu bağlamda, bu çalışma, konumlandırma stratejisi çerçevesinde web sitelerini değerlendirmek için gözden geçirilmiş ve güncellenmiş bir yöntem sunmaktadır. Bulgular, web sitesi değerlendirmesi ile Ar&Ge harcamaları arasında doğrudan bir ilişki olmadığını göstermekle birlikte; web sitesine yönelik bazı ortak zayıf noktaları ortaya çıkartmaktadır; örneğin yönetim alanında. Ayrıca, halka açık şirketlerin, halka açık olmayanlara kıyasla, web sitelerinden içerik açısından daha etkin faydalandığı görülmektedir. Çalışma, 5N1K modeli için yeni bir yaklaşım önermesi ve web sitelerinin benzerlik ve farklılıklarını konumlandırma çerçevesinden ortaya koyması açısından, hem akademisyenlere hem de uygulayıcılara katkıda bulunmaktadır.

Considering the intention of maintaining legitimacy in especially high revenue firms, this study aims to reveal similarities and differences about disability disclosure of top 50 Fortune firms’ websites in Turkey. Website contents are analyzed via content analysis. Results indicate that firms give emphasis on ‘physical conditions in facilities’, ‘education of people with disabilities and employees’, ‘products’, ‘requirements to get services’ and ‘donations’. In some industries firms share similar contents though differences are more than similarities in overall. Firms’ poor application of disability employment related legislations are also discussed in results. This exploratory research focuses on the disability related content of 61 four and five star hotels’ corporate websites in Izmir to reveal the provision of services to people with disabilities within the lodging industry via content analysis. The findings mainly revealed that the websites are not well-structured to support social inclusion of people with disabilities. Most of the hotel websites lack the details of general accessible information and visuals of the properties related to disability and measurement details of offered products in line with the services. Accordingly, empowerment of stakeholders is emphasized in order to improve the awareness of economic and social benefits in accessible accommodation.

In this paper, we analyse a variation of truel competitions in which each prospective player is r... more In this paper, we analyse a variation of truel competitions in which each prospective player is represented by a node in a scale-free network. Without including any particular spatial arrangement of players, traditional game theory suggests that in many truel settings the strongest player often has the lowest probability of survival, a paradox that has been popularised by the term survival of the unfittest. However, both our single-run and the Monte-Carlo simulations suggest that this particular notion does not hold in scale-free networks. The spatial structure and arrangement of players are crucial for the outcome of truels, as in scale-free networks the number of players surviving the competition positively depends on their marksmanship (i.e., the strongest players indeed have the highest probability of survival).

ÖZ Dünyada engelli bireylerin sosyal katılımları konusunda artan farkındalık, Türkiye'de turizm ve misafirperverlik endüstrisini de etkilemektedir. Bu keşifsel araştırma, konaklama endüstrisi içinde engelli bireylere sağlanan hizmetleri açığa çıkarmak için İzmir'de bulunan 61 adet dört ve beş yıldızlı otelin kurumsal internet sitelerindeki engellilik ile ilgili içeriklere, içerik analizi aracılığıyla odaklanmaktadır. Temel olarak bulgular, internet sitelerinin engelli bireylerin sosyal katılımlarını desteklemede iyi yapılandırılmadıklarını ortaya koymaktadır. Otel internet sitelerinin büyük kısmında genel erişilebilirlik bilgisi, engellilik ile ilgili mülkiyetin görselleri ve hizmetle beraber sağlanan ürünlerin ölçüm detayları eksiktir. Bu doğrultuda, erişilebilir konaklamada sosyal ve ekonomik faydaların farkındalığını arttırmak için paydaşların güçlendirilmesine vurgu yapılmaktadır.

ÖZ: Örgütsel değişim, çalışanların bilişsel süreçlerindeki farklılıkların doğal bir sonucu olarak... more ÖZ: Örgütsel değişim, çalışanların bilişsel süreçlerindeki farklılıkların doğal bir sonucu olarak, keskin sınırlarla tanımlanamayan, soyut ve somut unsurları yapısında barındıran bir fenomendir. Yazındaki mevcut sınıflandırmaların ve modellerin, çoğunlukla farklı işletmeleri temsil edebilir ve genellenebilir özellikte kurgulandığı bilinmektedir. Modern yaklaşımın bu genellemeci bakış açısına karşıt olarak, postmodern yaklaşım genellenebilir modellerin temsil gücünü sorgulayarak, gerçekliğin çoklu olduğunu önermektedir. Bu bakış açısıyla, postmodern epistemolojiden faydalanarak, örgütsel değişimin ne şekilde incelenebileceği ve yorumlanabileceğine yönelik öneriler getiren bu çalışma, genel anlamıyla yazındaki örgütsel değişim çalışmalarına farklı bir bakış açısı sunmaktadır. / ABSTRACT: As an expected result of cognitive differences of employees, organizational change is a phenomenon that cannot be defined within precise boundaries since it involves the abstract and concrete constituents. The existing classifications and models in the literature are often known to represent several businesses and t o be generalizable. Contrary to this generalist view of the modern approach, questioning the power of representation of generalizable models, the postmodern approach suggests that reality is multilayered. From this perspective, this study examines how organizational change can be evaluated and interpreted via postmodern epistemology, and accordingly suggests a different perspective on organizational change studies.

Primary purpose of the study is to find out the innovation management perspectives and future per... more Primary purpose of the study is to find out the innovation management perspectives and future perceptions of innovative firms in İzmir, Turkey, in order to understand the current and future innovation dynamics of the province. Accordingly, 20 innovative firms in Izmir are analysed by using a face to face semi-structured interview technique and performing a content analysis. Study outcomes basically revealed a great diversion in various topics of innovation management. For instance; 85 % of firms focus on product innovation and 30 % of firms have both a strategic plan and an innovation plan. In addition, 75 % of firms mentioned that there is either a department or an appointed manager in dealing with innovation activities. 85 % of respondents use several tools to trigger creative thinking and innovation whereas 65 % of innovative ideas are generated from employees' suggestions. Only 35 % of firms emphasized that they have a systematic approach in finding out innovative perspectives. Results indicate a multidimensional understanding of innovation management and also in future perspective of the province. This diversion in the perception of firms, reveal that firms gain success in innovation, through a unique understanding of their own, more than implementing a standard procedure.

Recently, cultural organizations strive for differentiating themselves to attract more audiences ... more Recently, cultural organizations strive for differentiating themselves to attract more audiences in order to carry out their social missions. Museums, as one of the non-profit cultural organizations, are becoming highly sophisticated by implementing more interactive, cocreative and unconventional approaches through their social and cultural missions. Why is that? The answer is so simple, the dramatic changes in post-modern era are affected the taste and expectations of audiences, hence governments, public organizations and municipalities pay more attention to create somewhat more dynamic museum concepts by steering away from "cliché". Therefore current study is focused on case of boutique museums in Turkey. Semi-structured interviews are conducted both Mask Museum (MM), Joy and Caricature Museum (JCM) and Game and Toy Museum (GTM) coordinators. With regard to interview outcomes, the three boutique museums are discussed elaborately in terms of their mission, short and long term objectives, key activities, promotions, visitor profile and so forth. Besides, in order to reveal similarities and differences within these museums, a comparative table of museum operations on specific features is presented. This study concludes with suggestions to the stakeholders of boutique museums.

Gıda ekosisteminin üre tim, tüketim, pazarlama, tarım, hayvancılık ve lojistik gibi farklı alanlarına odaklanarak, her birini etik tartışmaları ve sürdürülebilir uygulamaları ele almaktadır. Üretim aşamasında küreselleşme ve standartlaşmanın artışı, organik tarım gibi sertifikaların rolü, şeffaflık ve denetim gerekliliği gibi konular ele alınmıştır. İşletmelerin çevre duyarlılığı ve sürdürülebilir uygulamaları, paketleme malzemelerinin çevresel etkileri, pazarlama aşamalarındaki etik meseleler ele alınmıştır. Tarım ve hayvancılıkta, sürdürülebilir tarım, pestisit kullanımı, genetiği değiştirilmiş organizmalar, hayvan hakları gibi konular tartışılmıştır. Lojistik ve tedarik zinciri boyunca taşımacılığın çevresel etkileri, kısa tedarik zincirinin rolü ve bitki temelli yakıtlar gibi çözüm önerileri incelenmiştir. Tüketici açısından ise, bilinçli etik tüketici, gıda okuryazarlığı gibi konulara değinilmiştir. Sonuç olarak, gıda ekosisteminin etik ve sürdürülebilir yönetimi için teorik ve pratik bir çerçeve sunulmaktadır. Yerel üreticilerin desteklenmesi, fosil yakıtların alternatiflerle değiştirilmesi gibi çözüm önerileriyle, gıda sistemlerinin daha sürdürülebilir ve etik olması için atılacak adımları ele almaktadır.

Corporate websites are essential platforms through which firms introduce their goods and services... more Corporate websites are essential platforms through which firms introduce their goods and services on B2B and B2C level, express financial information for the stakeholders and share corporate values, purposes and activities. Due to its facilities, websites take part in firm positioning strategy. Accordingly this study aims to understand the innovation oriented positioning through corporate websites. The method applied in this study has been adapted from the 2QCV2Q Model developed by Mich and Franch (2000) to evaluate websites and top 30 firms with the highest Research and Development expenditures listed in Turkishtime (2015) have been analyzed. Within this context, this study presents a revised and updated method for the assessments of websites through positioning strategy framework. Findings indicate no direct relationship between website evaluation and R&D expenditure, though some common weaknesses have been put forward, such as information about management of the firms. Besides, publicly traded firms are recognized to facilitate websites more efficiently than non-publicly traded firms. Study contribute to both academia and practitioners as putting forward a new approach for 2QCV2Q Model and indicating the similarities and differences among the corporate websites through positioning perspective. Considering the intention of maintaining legitimacy in especially high revenue firms, this study aims to reveal similarities and differences about disability disclosure of top 50 Fortune firms’ websites in Turkey. Website contents are analyzed via content analysis. Results indicate that firms give emphasis on ‘physical conditions in facilities’, ‘education of people with disabilities and employees’, ‘products’, ‘requirements to get services’ and ‘donations’. In some industries firms share similar contents though differences are more than similarities in overall. Firms’ poor application of disability employment related legislations are also discussed in results. This exploratory research focuses on the disability related content of 61 four and five star hotels’ corporate websites in Izmir to reveal the provision of services to people with disabilities within the lodging industry via content analysis. The findings mainly revealed that the websites are not well-structured to support social inclusion of people with disabilities. Most of the hotel websites lack the details of general accessible information and visuals of the properties related to disability and measurement details of offered products in line with the services. Accordingly, empowerment of stakeholders is emphasized in order to improve the awareness of economic and social benefits in accessible accommodation.

Without including any particular spatial arrangement of players, traditional game theory suggests that in many truel settings the strongest player often has the lowest probability of survival, a paradox that has been popularised by the term survival of the unfittest. However, both our single-run and the Monte-Carlo simulations suggest that this particular notion does not hold in scale-free networks. The spatial structure and arrangement of players are crucial for the outcome of truels, as in scale-free networks the number of players surviving the competition positively depends on their marksmanship (i.e., the strongest players indeed have the highest probability of survival).

Bu keşifsel araştırma, konaklama endüstrisi içinde engelli bireylere sağlanan hizmetleri açığa çıkarmak için İzmir'de bulunan 61 adet dört ve beş yıldızlı otelin kurumsal internet sitelerindeki engellilik ile ilgili içeriklere, içerik analizi aracılığıyla odaklanmaktadır. Temel olarak bulgular, internet sitelerinin engelli bireylerin sosyal katılımlarını desteklemede iyi yapılandırılmadıklarını ortaya koymaktadır. Otel internet sitelerinin büyük kısmında genel erişilebilirlik bilgisi, engellilik ile ilgili mülkiyetin görselleri ve hizmetle beraber sağlanan ürünlerin ölçüm detayları eksiktir. Bu doğrultuda, erişilebilir konaklamada sosyal ve ekonomik faydaların farkındalığını arttırmak için paydaşların güçlendirilmesine vurgu yapılmaktadır.

Yazındaki mevcut sınıflandırmaların ve modellerin, çoğunlukla farklı işletmeleri temsil edebilir ve genellenebilir özellikte kurgulandığı bilinmektedir. Modern yaklaşımın bu genellemeci bakış açısına karşıt olarak, postmodern yaklaşım genellenebilir modellerin temsil gücünü sorgulayarak, gerçekliğin çoklu olduğunu önermektedir. Bu bakış açısıyla, postmodern epistemolojiden faydalanarak, örgütsel değişimin ne şekilde incelenebileceği ve yorumlanabileceğine yönelik öneriler getiren bu çalışma, genel anlamıyla yazındaki örgütsel değişim çalışmalarına farklı bir bakış açısı sunmaktadır. / ABSTRACT: As an expected result of cognitive differences of employees, organizational change is a phenomenon that cannot be defined within precise boundaries since it involves the abstract and concrete constituents. The existing classifications and models in the literature are often known to represent several businesses and t o be generalizable. Contrary to this generalist view of the modern approach, questioning the power of representation of generalizable models, the postmodern approach suggests that reality is multilayered. From this perspective, this study examines how organizational change can be evaluated and interpreted via postmodern epistemology, and accordingly suggests a different perspective on organizational change studies.

Primary purpose of the study is to find out the innovation management perspectives and future per... more Primary purpose of the study is to find out the innovation management perspectives and future perceptions of innovative firms in İzmir, Turkey, in order to understand the current and future innovation dynamics of the province. Accordingly, 20 innovative firms in Izmir are analysed by using a face to face semi-structured interview technique and performing a content analysis. Study outcomes basically revealed a great diversion in various topics of innovation management. For instance; 85 % of firms focus on product innovation and 30 % of firms have both a strategic plan and an innovation plan. In addition, 75 % of firms mentioned that there is either a department or an appointed manager in dealing with innovation activities. 85 % of respondents use several tools to trigger creative thinking and innovation whereas 65 % of innovative ideas are generated from employees' suggestions. Only 35 % of firms emphasized that they have a systematic approach in finding out innovative perspectives. Results indicate a multidimensional understanding of innovation management and also in future perspective of the province. This diversion in the perception of firms, reveal that firms gain success in innovation, through a unique understanding of their own, more than implementing a standard procedure.

Museums, as one of the non-profit cultural organizations, are becoming highly sophisticated by implementing more interactive, cocreative and unconventional approaches through their social and cultural missions. Why is that? The answer is so simple, the dramatic changes in post-modern era are affected the taste and expectations of audiences, hence governments, public organizations and municipalities pay more attention to create somewhat more dynamic museum concepts by steering away from "cliché". Therefore current study is focused on case of boutique museums in Turkey. Semi-structured interviews are conducted both Mask Museum (MM), Joy and Caricature Museum (JCM) and Game and Toy Museum (GTM) coordinators. With regard to interview outcomes, the three boutique museums are discussed elaborately in terms of their mission, short and long term objectives, key activities, promotions, visitor profile and so forth. Besides, in order to reveal similarities and differences within these museums, a comparative table of museum operations on specific features is presented. This study concludes with suggestions to the stakeholders of boutique museums.
