[Aug. 31st, 2004|11:12 am]Games of the XXVIIIth Olympiad in Athens, Greece
Previous Entry Flag Next Entry [**mood** |quixoticquixotic]I was wondering something. I seem to remember that at the last Olympics the athletes were asked to vote for the athlete that showed the best sportsmanship during the Games and the athlete who got more votes got a medal or a certificate or something of the like. Am I wrong? Did that really happen? Do they do that every year? Did they do it this year? Who won? (hehe, such a load of questions!)oh, one last thing: in 2010, the Winter Games will be in VANCOUVER! That's in my country! I so need to go!

Yes, they do that at every Games. I believe this time, though, it's being given to the Brazilian marathon runner, due to the interference. I don't think that was it, cause they gave him the Pierre-de Coubertin medal and the commentators here said that they give this medal very rarely, just when the athlete shows unusual courage (and they give the example of a kayakist who stopped the race to save a competitor for drowning), so I don't think that's the same thing that I'm talking about. Ah, i got the two confused.in Toronto Star...the Best Sportsmanship award was given to Michael Phelps....cause he gave up his spot for Ian Crocker...i thought that was an honourable thing to do....but that Brazilian runner was impressive....P.S these rating and mock awards werent really official...they were commented by the Star reporters.... Vancouver isn't a country..:p Methinks you're confused. Damn Canadians. ;)
