Purpose-led businesses may be pondering - B Corp, Fairtrade or both? Designed to tackle poverty and empower producers, #Fairtrade is one of the world’s most recognised labels for social justice and sustainability. Like B Corp Certification, Fairtrade is rigorous, independent, and centred on high standards. While #BCorpCertification looks at business-wide operations, Fairtrade Certification is largely aimed at the individual product level, focusing on the supply chain and how products are made. Both help drive positive change and support businesses in balancing purpose and profit. In 2021, the two movements formally teamed up in an agreement to share knowledge and companies holding Fairtrade certification can earn additional points in the B Impact Assessment in the area of ‘community’. Two distinct but complementary movements - B Corp and Fairtrade are even stronger together. We recently caught up with these two Victoria-based B Corps to hear about what they’ve been up to since first certifying. Member-owned bank BankVic has continued investing profits into social initiatives that support emergency workers. They’ve also expanded their workplace giving program and started to look at how they might reduce their carbon footprint in the office. Psychology clinic and registered NDIS provider Guidestar has developed an inspiring new philanthropic partnership, a lived experience advisory group, and an initial workplace Reconciliation Action Plan. 💐 Recertification marks a big milestone for any #BCorp, so be sure to join us in congratulating these two B’s in the comments. Here are just a few highlights you’ll find in this year’s report: - Growing Movement: 34% increase in total #BCorps in our region - Economic influence: Our region’s B Corps have a combined revenue of 21BN(AUD)or21BN(AUD) or 21BN(AUD)or23BN (NZD) - Benchmarking Brand Awareness: 18% awareness of #BCorpCertification in Australia and 15% in Aotearoa New Zealand - Increased Media Mentions: 4,700 mentions of B Corp in the media, representing a 41% increase from the previous year - Shaping the Future: 52 B Corps and seven aspiring B Corps from our region contributed to a global consultation on B Lab’s evolving standards - New Ways to Learn: Launch of two online on-demand training courses featuring hours of educational content on the #BCorpMovementCORRECTION: There was a 34% increase in total B Corps in our region from July 1, 2023 to June 30, 2024 compared to previous year.
