Unlocking the ocean’s potential to secure a liveable planet
About us
Blue carbon is committed to providing environmental security for future generations by addressing both climate and biodiversity crises. The climate crisis is devastating, with natural disasters occurring at unprecedented levels, displacing millions. Life on earth is declining at a dangerous rate, and millions of species are nearing extinction. We must hit net zero carbon emissions by 2030 to protect 30% of land and oceans. Our ocean holds 50x more carbon than the atmosphere and 20x more carbon than plants and soil. Blue Carbon is at the forefront of shaping a sustainable future amidst the environmental crisis with a tech solution that unlocks the power of the ocean to secure our planet’s future. oPod pumps nutrient-rich, deep sea water to the ocean's surface - locking away Co2 and rejuvenating essential marine life food sources. Our Ocean Garden delivers sustainable aquaculture, using coastal currents to transport nutrients to neighboring kelp and oyster gardens. Initial estimates indicate one Ocean Garden could remove over 3000 tonnes of Co2 annually. Reach out to explore how together, we can forge a sustainable future for our planet.

CEO Dr Ana Novak was invited to be a guest speaker at the Hong Kong Trade Development Council prestigious Belt & Road Summit. We were honoured to be a part of this summit, envisaged as a contemporary version of the original Silk Road, where not only goods were traded, but the peaceful exchange of culture, knowledge and ideas could occur. We were humbled by the warm reception and attention we received. We could not be more grateful to Bonnie Shek from the HKDTC. A huge thank you to Tanya Dillon and the Trade and Investment Queensland for your support for us and the oPod. This summit has been an amazing platform for us to share our common goals of bridging from our current productive economy to one that continues to thrive, but adds a sustainable (and even more lucrative) partnership with nature. For us, it was amazing to hear what other innovations are emerging from across the world - across multi-million dollar infrastructure projects that will reshape countries, to projects changing the future of genetics, space and more. It’s this spirit of sharing, collaboration and support that lays out a pathway to our shared successful future. -

Blue Carbon is at the prestigious Hong Kong Trade Development Council's Belt and Road Summit - where the world of major infrastructure investment meets… the world. It’s fair to say that the future is funded here. In a sea of grand visions, it's the moments of shared understanding that excite us. We’d been invited to showcase our oPod technology, so we were nervous, to say the least. Turns out there are a lot of people looking to combine sustainability and economic development. A highlight of the Summit was catching up with our carbon trading partner, Dr Felix Chung, Chairman of the Hong Kong Carbon Trading Centre. We share a mutual passion and awareness of the challenges of carbon capture: the scale of what’s needed and the excitement for what the oPod could deliver. #OceanTech #BeltAndRoad #ClimateAction #ClimateInvest - Our team is working hard to put the final touches on oPod 002 - because we'll be in the water within weeks, testing in real-world conditions. A huge thank you to the team - led by FRED BARRETT, and of course with guidance from Eva Chiu and Dr. Martin V. Mathew. With CEO Dr Ana Novak leading tirelessly through thick and thin, we're excited to see the first step into decarbonising aquaculture, and after that - who knows. Thanks also to Ocean Impact Organisation and EnergyLab for your belief and support for ocean motion-powered pumps. Perhaps Summer's next blockbuster won't be in theatres - but in the water #WavePower #ClimateInvest #BlueCarbon
- Microscopic marine organisms are quietly outperforming our most advanced engineered systems in the fight against climate change, right now. Did you know? • Phytoplankton capture 37-50 billion tons of carbon annually. • Phytoplankton are 2500-3300 times more carbon efficient than land plants. • Phytoplankton grow exponentially, doubling their population daily under ideal conditions, providing the base of the marine chain. At Blue Carbon, we're amplifying this carbon-capturing super power with our oPod technology. It's the backbone of our Nature to Business (N2B) approach – aligning our innovation with nature's ability to heal the planet. Why it matters: 1. Sustainable scaling: Oceans offer vast carbon sequestration potential without competing for terrestrial resources. 2. Dual impact: By enhancing phytoplankton activity, we're not only capturing carbon, but also supporting marine biodiversity. 3. Future-ready: As carbon markets evolve, blue carbon technologies present a compelling pathway for addressing climate challenges while driving innovation. The future of large-scale carbon capture lies in our oceans. Join our blue revolution.#BlueCarbon #N2B #ClimateInnovation #OceanTechnology
- We’re excited and delighted to be a part of the 2024 round of innovators, and looking forward to making a real impact together. We’re ecstatic to announce our THIRD cohort of the Ocean Impact Accelerator Program (OIAP), continuing our efforts to enhance innovation in the sustainable blue economy. These five startups from three countries (Australia, New Zealand and Chile) will work closely with OIO during the program to hone their offering and expand their reach into key markets in the Australia and Asia-Pacific regions. The five startups are (in alphabetical order): 🧬 AQUIT | Biotech solutions for sustainable aquaculture ↕️ Blue Carbon | Helping businesses partner with nature 💻 Ocean Intelligence | Data-driven solutions for marine farmers ⛴️ Pinpoint Earth | Revolutionising seafood traceability 🧰 Washbox Global | Closed-loop tool wash technology We’re so proud to have now welcomed a total of 17 exciting startups and their game-changing solutions to transform ocean health into the program since 2022! 🌊🚀 Meet our 2024 cohort ➡️ https://lnkd.in/gMYqJ-Gc - At Blue Carbon, our expert team has been tirelessly developing the oPod-002, the next generation of ocean Pods. Our scientists and engineers are working together to overcome the complex challenges of what seems like a simple solution—a seawater pump powered by ocean waves. This design builds on the success of the first-generation oPod-001, which passed five prototype trials with flying colours. Work is well underway on the oPod-002 in Tasmania, led by renowned yacht designer FRED BARRETT. Fred has brilliantly brought his expertise to Blue Carbon’s bold vision of transforming ocean movement into continuous pumping. His designs are central to making this vision a reality, and we’re excited to see the results unfold in the waters of Tasmania soon.
