It is noted that although computer-based organizational information systems possess many of the attributes required for intelligent behavior, they rarely take an active role in supporting the decision-making activities of the organization. The role of memory processes in determining intelligent courses of action is reviewed, and categories of organizational information systems are defined. A technique using Boolean memory functions is ...

The authors suggest that philosophies of inquiry can be ascertained through hermeneutic analysis of written texts created by distributed workers using computer-mediated communication systems. Using this approach, elements of context in written artifacts that should be evident for each of Churchman's inquiring models (Leibnizian, Lockean, Kantian, Hegelian, and Singerian) are delineated, ...

A traditional funds flow model embedded in an objected-oriented programming environment is suggested as a potentially robust approach to modeling the managerial problem domain. Methods from qualitative causal modeling and structural modeling are incorporated. The resulting design appears to have attractive properties, including focused hypothesis generation and the ability to derive behavior from structure

This notion has evolved from recognition of the current problems faced when development occurs without regard for its impact on the surrounding ecosystem. The problems that occur are legion and the solutions complex. They involve many stakeholders with often significantly different perspectives and vastly different goals. New approaches to defining ...

The fundamental concepts of knowledge management, knowledge acquisition, knowledge representation, and knowledge utilization are examined in light of the unique characteristics of organizational problems. Key areas where these technologies can be applied in organizational settings are discussed, including document processing, organizational learning, information systems ...
