We daily utter statements with the form 'A is not B'. And when we think of the self-identity of A what we actually think is that A is not the other-from-A. But what to think of the 'not' itself? Does the 'not' mean a "thing" of the same kind of A? If yes, we are forced to think that the 'not' is not the other-from-the-not. In particular, the 'not' is not the 'is'. This is exactely what is implied by the "primal structure", the system formulated by E. Severino, where all is a "being" and any being is negatively determined. But this situation seems to have unsustainable consequences; one is that the primal structure does not seem to be able to distinguish between the meaning of the verbal negation of the 'is' and the meaning of the nominal negation of the 'is', i.e. that specific nominal syntagma constituted by the istance of 'not-x' for x=is. So the primal structure does not seem to have the resources to solve the ambiguity between the two senses of the negation of the 'is' (i.e.the 'is not' as meaning the verbal negation of the 'is' and the 'not-is' as meaning the other-from-the'is'. I try to show all that exploiting the formal derivation, within Severino's primal structure, of a disconcerting proposition, that affirms that the negation (i.e. the 'not) semantically equals to the nothing(ness).
[This paper is an English and expanded version of the speech I held at the conference for the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the publication of "The primal structure" (Brescia, 2-3 March 2018)].

For a long time the "severe" perfection of the temple of Neptune in Paestum had made us forget its becoming, even if irregularities and violations of "canonic" rules were soon discovered. Now the most immemorial past of its construction has been revealed by Dieter Mertens, the great German scholar who is studying the temple of Neptune since 1977. Announced by two articles published during 2019 and based on previous communications in conferences, the so long expected monography regarding the largest temple in Paestum is finally going to be edited. Our knowledge of this 6x14 majestic sacred building is now deeply changed: its stereobate, from the foundations up to the first step of the crepidoma, was executed for a late-archaich temple with a completely different planimetric scheme; later, during the construction of the 6x14 temple, the design underwent an important revision by the architects, that changed the interaxial spacing and consequently the proportional dimensioning of the temple. Pushed by Mertens’ research, the hidden past of temple of Neptune is finally coming forward.

It is built over artificial terraces on the southern slopes of Mount Eubea with a commanding view on the Argolid plain. This is the report of my visit in the Heraion in September 2017. Paying the necessary tribute to the historical-archaeological knowledge, I try at the same time to say the "sense" of this unique sacred place.

It's a bright morning of September and from the westernmost terrace of the acropolis you can see the Taygete deploying its barrier in a majesty unfolding, and Sparta nesteled at its feet.
The city still appears resigned, in a grateful acceptance of the domination of the summits that established the western borders of its dwelling. On the opposite side, eastward, the city is delimited by the bends of its river Eurotas. We are attracted by its openness: the most open town in Greece, the only polis without walls, «setteled in villages according the old way of life in Greece»: that's how Thucydides set its eikós, the look, forever.

This formal derivation of the statement of the nothingness of the negation is actually afflicted by a relevant error, due to an ambiguity in virtue of which the negation of the copula appears (wrongly) as the position of the different-from-the-‘is’. But even avoiding this error, the conception of the verbal negation of the being (‘is not’ in english) in the <> seems to remain aporethical.

What happens if one day Friedrich Nietzsche enters an archaeological museum? Maybe the return of the past. This short tale won an award at the 2019 "Premio di Poesia e Prosa Lorenzo Montano"; maybe it will be published soon, maybe not.
