Beverly Hills Robotics - Business and Writing (original) (raw)
The fundraising event held at Spark Restaurant on January 29 was a huge success. A huge thanks to everyone who attended. (And a thank you to the Chait family who owns Spark.) Held in the basement of the restaurant, in a room of a maximum capacity of 95, almost 90 people attended, according to team leader Jenny Liu. Exact number is confirmed to be 74 - either way, it was a lot more than expected. Only about 20 people had RSVP'd. A great turnout!
A short presentation was made by MORTORQ to let those supporting the team know what we are all about. Our amazing fundraiser planner Sloane Trugman, sloanemeister, thanked everyone for coming - the PTSA and parents. Zack Anderson thanked Mr. Lee for the time and effort he has put in, and Zack also gave an overview of FIRST. Jenny Liu described this year's game, Nick Sarnoff described the progress we've made so far, and Mike Harris presented the progress on animation.
Three board of education members and their spouses showed up to support the team -
Myra Lurie, Myra Demeter, and John Millan. Principal Dan Stepenosky and his wife also came and had dinner. Most of the members of the team and their parents attended the event as well.

Most amazingly, Dr. Gary H. Hoffman, stumbled upon our fundraising event while he was at the restaurant, having known nothing about FIRST or robotics - not a part of the robotics party, heard the presentation, and very generously offered to donate $1000 to the team!
A total of 840wasraisedfromthedinner,andanadditional840 was raised from the dinner, and an additional 840wasraisedfromthedinner,andanadditional1600 was donated.
